Filamu International Student Film Festival is a film event that aims to showcase the talent and creativity of young filmmakers, providing a platform for international exposure and networking.
Our goal is to foster creativity, innovation and excellence in film industry, promote the film industry and arts in Kenya, foster cultural exchange and understanding between Kenya and other nations, and provide opportunities for emerging filmmakers and artists to showcase their talents. The festival acts as a stepping stone for many upcoming film directors and producers. It helps them “come out of their shell” and be confident in their art.

Rules & Terms

1. All Submissions must be made exclusively through FilmFreeway. Provide essential information, including film title, director, cast, and production details. Include a secure online screener or a link to the film for the selection committee's review.

2. All film submissions must be original works created by the entrant.

3. Entrants are responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions for copyrighted material included in their film.

4. By submitting a film, entrants grant Filamu International Student Film Festival the right to use clips from the film for promotional purposes. including but not limited to screenings, trailers, and associated materials, for promotional activities both online and offline, including social media and press releases.

5. Films will be judged on originality, storytelling, technical execution, and overall impact.

6. Winners will be notified by email and announced at the Filamu International Student Film Festival awards ceremony.

7. The festival reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who does not comply with these rules and guidelines.

8. Filmmakers have the right to request the withdrawal of their film from consideration by providing written notice before the official selection announcement.

9. Submission period is open from 12/02/2024 and closes on 22/03/2024

    The 2024 edition of the festival was so amazing. I got the opportunity to connect with fellow filmmakers who have now become significant contributors in my works after the festival. I also got the chance to share my knowledge as a panelist through the panel discussion.

    It was wonderful! I enjoyed every bit, the films screened, the networking; next time suggestions we go big, invitations to many(especially professionals to the industry) and the films screened to be of great quality. This could be done by preparing the students or giving them something worth to fight for. Let's make Filamu festival be heard by the World 🌍 also the screening projector to be improved or changed, not pleasing at all. Warmest Regards!
