The first edition of FIC Canoinhas, in 2024, marks a significant moment in this journey. Imagine yourself immersed in a universe where transcendental narratives intertwine, where each scene tells a unique story that, together, form a magnificent spectacle of creativity and imagination.
Our categories are not just competitions, they are chapters of a larger story. From local productions that capture the unique essence of Canoinhas to creations by talented filmmakers from around the world, each documentary is a precious link in this chain of narratives. We invite you to submit your documentary, tell your story and invite everyone around you to celebrate life through your unique perspective.
Furthermore, we want to reassure you: our selection will also include documentaries produced with cell phones/smartphones, and we will have several categories, as mentioned below.
1. FIC CANOINHAS - CULTURE INCENTIVE LAWS
Description:
Category dedicated to producers who receive support through cultural incentive laws in the municipality and adjacent regions. This is an opportunity for local talent to showcase their creative potential and express their unique perspectives through film.

Selection Process:
The films will be evaluated by a committee of curators, who will take into account the originality, narrative and technical quality of the productions. The selection will be based on the film's relevance for promoting local culture and its social impact.
2. FIC CANOINHAS - SPECIAL TEACHING
Description:
Category specially developed for students, actors and cultural producers from special education networks in Brazil or for works produced by people with disabilities. This category meets the growing demand for filmmakers who produce films with a positive impact on society, with a focus on recognizing significant contributions to the cinematic scene.

Notes:
Participation: Applications from producers who have not effectively participated in the film creation process will not be accepted.
Special Curation: To ensure broad competition, a curation will be carried out to identify films that have not been made by those registered.
Acceptance Criteria: Films produced by students or people with disabilities who have received support from educational institutions, as well as former students of special classes, will be accepted. Raw files and other proof of production may be requested when necessary.
Nationality: Only national films, produced by students or former students of special education networks or people with disabilities, will be accepted.
Selection Process:
The curators will evaluate the technical quality, originality and potential social impact of the films. The selection will prioritize works that reflect authentic experiences and promote inclusion.
3. FIC CANOINHAS - NATIONAL
Description:
Category open to film producers from all over Brazil. Opportunity for Brazilian filmmakers to present their documentaries and share their unique narratives with the festival audience.
Theme: Sport, education, nature or personal overcoming
Classification: Free

Selection Process:
The documentaries will be evaluated by a panel of experts, considering the technical quality, narrative and relevance of the topic. The selection will look for works that promote diversity of voices and experiences.
4. FIC CANOINHAS - INTERNATIONAL
Description:
Category open to film producers from outside Brazil. A chance for international filmmakers to showcase their documentaries and enrich the festival with diverse and global cinematic perspectives.

Mandatory: Subtitles in Portuguese - Brazil
Classification: Free

Selection Process:
Films will be selected based on criteria of quality, innovation and cultural relevance. The panel of curators will look for works that offer new perspectives and dialogues on universal themes.
5. FIC CANOINHAS - NATIONAL ANIMATION
Description:
Category aimed at national producers who create animations aimed at children. A space for animated, charming and captivating documentaries, which provide fun and learning for children.
Theme: Sport, education, nature or personal overcoming
Classification: Free

Selection Process:
The animations will be evaluated for their aesthetic quality, narrative and ability to engage children. The curatorship will consider the originality and suitability of the content.
6. FIC CANOINHAS - INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION
Description:
Category aimed at international producers who create animations aimed at children. The producer must reside outside Brazil and have the film subtitled in Portuguese - Brazil.
Classification: Free
Theme: Sport, education, nature or personal overcoming

Selection Process:
The technical quality, creativity and relevance of the themes covered in the animations will be evaluated. The selection will look for works that promote education and inclusion in a playful way.
A: Carefully read the festival guidelines and regulations.
B: Make sure you understand the eligibility criteria, accepted categories, submission deadlines, and technical requirements for film submission, including file format, resolution, maximum length, subtitles, and other specific details. It is essential that your film/documentary is ready to be submitted according to these specifications. If it is not complete, do not submit it as this will result in disqualification.
C: If you have questions about any point in the regulations, please contact us immediately. We are here to help and clarify your questions.
D: Complete all the information requested on the application form, including details about the film, the production team and your contact information.
E: Submit your film following the instructions provided, which will involve uploading the film/documentary to the FilmFreeway.com platform.
F: After the application deadline, the festival selection committee will evaluate the films and announce the results. Pay attention to the festival's communications to find out if your documentary has been selected.
G: Only films that address the themes mentioned in this notice and that have been released from 2022 onwards will be accepted.
H: Applications will not be accepted without the film's teaser, nor with missing producer information.
SUBTITLES AND EDIOMES
All selected films must be presented with subtitles in Portuguese, regardless of whether they are already in the Brazilian language.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
All material sent, regardless of whether or not it is in video format, will not be returned. This policy is applicable to all submissions received, aiming to optimize the evaluation process and guaranteeing the integrity of the materials sent. Also in general, the Films / Documentaries received may be added to competitive and traveling exhibitions, or even to replace a film that has been disqualified in the evaluation process.
DISCLOSURE
With the sole aim of promoting the festival and the talented producers who submit their works, we inform you that, whenever possible, we will make small copies of selected excerpts. These excerpts will be incorporated into the official promotional video.
This initiative seeks to highlight the diversity and quality of participating productions, providing an engaging preview that piques the public's interest. The careful selection of excerpts aims to faithfully reflect the essence and merit of each film/documentary.
Therefore, a teaser must be sent with the registration so that it can be used to evaluate and promote the selected films.
DEADLINES AND FEES
For all categories we will have the same registration deadline, so the organization, at any time it deems appropriate, may change, or even close registrations in advance due to the high demand for films on the platform, this decision will be necessary if we have a There is a very high number of films to be evaluated, therefore, it is strongly recommended that you do not wait until the last minute to send your film.

REGISTRATION FEE
Within the scope of this notice, it is established that there will be no registration fees charged for the national categories.
It is essential that the person responsible for the entry carefully follows the procedure for submitting their film or documentary in the appropriate category. It is important to note that the submission may be invalidated if it is not carried out in accordance with the specified categories. As this is an international registration system, there will be no refund of registration fees if the responsible producer registers in the wrong category.
USE AUTHORIZATION
When registering for the Canoinhas International Film Festival, the person responsible for the registration declares that they grant the necessary authorization to show the FILM or DOCUMENTARY during the festival, as well as in online, in-person or itinerant screenings, organized by the event's directors. This authorization does not include the redistribution of material to other festivals
RESPONSIBILITY FOR SENDING REGISTRATIONS
It is the producer's sole responsibility to complete all fields on the registration form accurately and completely.
The form must be sent within the deadline established by the festival (from 11/27/2024 to 12/07/2024). The event organization is not responsible for registrations sent after the deadline or for any technical problems that may occur during the submission process. This includes fluctuations in the registration platform, updates or other factors that may prevent films from being submitted. It is strongly recommended that producers anticipate and submit their films as soon as possible.
It is recommended that the producer carefully checks all information before submitting the application form. Errors, omissions or incorrect information may impact the evaluation and consideration of the application.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR COPYRIGHT
It is essential that producers hold the copyright to the soundtracks, as well as the necessary authorizations for the use of images and other elements present in the registered films and documentaries.
When submitting a film or documentary to the Canoinhas International Film Festival, producers declare and guarantee that they have the copyright of the soundtracks used, as well as all necessary image use authorizations.
The festival organization reserves the right to request documentation proving copyright and image use authorizations at any time during the documentary selection and screening process.
If it is found that a registered documentary infringes copyright or does not have the necessary authorizations to use images, the festival organization reserves the right to disqualify the documentary and remove it from the program, without refunding registration fees paid, when whatever the case.
Producers are solely responsible for any disputes, complaints or legal implications arising from violations of copyright, image rights or any other violations related to the registered documentaries. The festival organization does not assume any legal responsibility in these circumstances.
By submitting a film or documentary submission, producers express their understanding and agreement with the terms above, assuming full responsibility for copyright, image rights and other authorizations necessary for the exhibition of the documentary, whether online, in person or in any other projection modality.

CRITERIA AND EVALUATION
The evaluation criteria used by the judging team may vary across categories:
1. Originality: The documentary's ability to present a unique, creative and innovative approach in terms of concept, story, visual style, narrative or technique.
2. Narrative: The narrative structure of the film, including the development of the characters, the rhythm of the story, the coherence and clarity of the plot.
3. Direction: The director's ability to direct the film, including directing actors, composing scenes, choosing framing, using light and sound, and creating an engaging atmosphere.
4. Acting: The quality and authenticity of the actors' performances, including emotional expression, dialogue delivery and chemistry between characters.
5. Filmmaking Technique: The technical quality of the film, including cinematography, editing, soundtrack, sound design, visual effects, and any other technical elements that contribute to the overall film experience.
6. Emotional impact: The documentary's ability to evoke genuine emotions and create an emotional connection with the audience, whether through comedy, drama, suspense or other forms of emotional expression.
7. Message and Theme: The clarity and relevance of the message conveyed by the film, as well as the way it addresses important themes and issues.
THEME, MAXIMUM TIME AND INDICATIVE CLASSIFICATION.
Maximum 5 to 15 minutes with credits.
Classification: Free for all audiences.

LIABILITY FOR LOSSES OR DAMAGES
By participating in the festival, those involved agree that the organization is not responsible for damages, losses, or any incidents related to recording, editing, post-production or any other equipment for the purposes of participating in the Festival.
EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY
Participants are entirely responsible for the care and maintenance of their own recording equipment, and the organization of this festival is not responsible for damage, loss or theft during recording and after completion of the final project.
TRANSPORTATION, ACCOMMODATION AND OTHER COSTS
The festival organization does not assume responsibility for costs related to production, post-production and delivery of prizes.
It is important to highlight that participants must bear the costs mentioned above, while the festival organization is committed to providing support in the form of information and guidance to facilitate participants' stay and movement during the event.
We are available to provide information and guidance to participants regarding accommodation, food and transportation, in order to assist them during the event.
RECOMMENDATIONS
We recommend that participants follow the time guidelines established for each category in order to ensure a balanced and efficient schedule during the festival. Furthermore, it is important that the films are suitable for all age groups, maintaining a free indicative rating for all audiences.

FINAL PROVISIONS
Participants must ensure that their films comply with the guidelines and deadlines established in the festival regulations.
The organization reserves the right to disqualify any documentary that infringes copyright, contains offensive material or is considered unsuitable for public viewing.
Participants agree to transfer the rights to screen their films during the festival event, unless otherwise declared by the filmmakers.
The winners will be announced during the awards ceremony and will receive corresponding trophies. Additional gifts from sponsors may be given when feasible.
Participation in the festival implies full acceptance of these regulations and the organization's decisions.
Any situation not foreseen in this regulation will be evaluated and decided by the festival organization.
Participants agree to allow the festival to use excerpts from their submitted films for promotional purposes, including trailers, promotional videos and social media posts. Additionally, participants must provide promotional materials, such as film images and information about the filmmakers, to be used to promote the festival.
The selected films will be shown during the festival in sessions open to the public. Participants authorize the public screening of their films during the non-profit event.
The jurors' decisions are final and are not subject to appeal. Jurors are chosen by the festival organization based on their experience and knowledge in the cinematographic field.
Participants agree that their personal information, provided during the registration process, may be stored and used by the festival organization exclusively for purposes related to the event.
The festival regulations are subject to the laws in force in the jurisdiction where the event takes place. Any legal disputes related to the festival will be resolved by the competent courts.
The administration of this Film Festival reserves the right to make adjustments to any aspect of this notice, including dates and selection sequence. Such adaptations will be implemented and communicated in a timely manner, aiming to improve the collective experience and benefit all participants.
