Join CFA’s Quarterly 72-Hour Film Challenge and experience an opportunity to push your creativity, work collaboratively, and grow alongside fellow filmmakers and actors. Register on our website in advance of submission dates to receive rules, guidelines & instructions: https://www.cinematographyforactors.com/quarterly-film-challenge

Here’s how it works:

72-Hour Countdown: The clock starts once the cameras roll, and you must complete your film within 72 hours, pushing your skills to the limit. Filming commences on November 8th and are all films must be submitted by November 11th to be considered.

Film Duration: Each film must have a total running time (TRT) of 7 minutes or less, including credits.

Challenge Output: With an estimated 50 films produced per challenge, there will be a wide variety of stories and techniques shared.

Technical Constraints: One week before the challenge, you’ll receive a breakdown of specific technical and practical constraints to guide your shoot, encouraging creativity within a low-budget framework.

For those in Los Angeles, we will throw a wrap party to screen some films, meet new people and connect with our partners.

As our film challenge is growing, we will announce prizes closer to the start of each challenge commencement. Prizes and awards vary per challenge.

We have three awards per challenge:
1. CFA Pinnacle Award: for best film
2. CFA Breakthrough Award: for a project with a first-time director, producer or writer
3. CFA Spotlight Award: for actor-led projects

In addition to prizes specific to each challenge, each winner will receive a write up on their film on League of Filmmakers and publicity on all the CFA social channels.

I enjoyed participating in the quarterly film challenge. Deadlines help me get things done and 72 hours is the right amount of time for me and my team to film a short and get it edited and turned in - with sleepless nights. The organizers are great with communications and all films are screened. I also enjoy networking with the other teams who participated in the challenge after the screening.

  • We were not clear on the submission.... Clicking the submit button should be the SUBMISSION. The screening should have room for all participants. We're not clear on the judging. We would have liked more opportunity for networking.
