1. Characteristics of the festival
1.1 Characteristics
Young Film Fest is an international film festival that focuses on cinema for children and young people. Through its annual programming, the festival seeks to foster intergenerational dialogue about film, film education and themes that are important to today's youth and that resonate with those who are (perhaps long past) their age.
1.2. Organisation

1.3 Other entities
The organiser cooperates with other entities that contribute financially and organisationally to the festival.
1.4 Management
The festival director manages the preparatory work and the course of the festival.

2. Programme sections
2.1 A film that may be entered in competition must have had its distribution or festival premiere no later than the previous calendar year (2023); films released in the year of the festival (2024) may also be entered.
2.2 The festival programme consists of two competition sections:
- BEST SHORT FILM FOR THE AGE GROUP 12+
- BEST SHORT FILM FOR THE AGE GROUP 15+
A short film is defined as a film of no more than 30 minutes in length and may be fiction, documentary, animation or experimental. The country of origin must be a European country. The target group is children and young people aged 12-18.
2.3. The programme also includes non-competitive sections and other accompanying programme.

3. Pre-selection of films (entry guidelines)
3.1. The person submitting the film (hereinafter referred to as the "Submitter") confirms that he/she has obtained permission from the film's authorised representatives to submit the film for pre-selection into the Competition.
3.2 Selection of films
Films for the Young Film Fest competitions are selected by the Programming Board.
3.3 Films accepted for submission
To be eligible for competition, a film must have had its distribution or festival premiere no later than the previous calendar year. Films released in the year of the festival, or films that will premiere at the festival, are also eligible to enter the competition.
3.4. Restrictions on the films to be entered
A short film is defined as a film of 30 minutes or less.
3.5 Entry to the Competition is free of charge, there is no entry fee.
3.6 Screening fees
Entry to the Competition is provided free of charge by the rights holder, no licensing or other fee is charged to the festival for the film screenings within the festival and its echoes.

4. Preview copies of the film
4.1 Preview copy
The preview copy is sent exclusively online when filling in the entry form on the FilmFreeway website/platform. The Festival prefers films submitted via Vimeo. The film must clearly indicate in the title or subtitle whether it is the final version of the film or a working version.
4.2 Language version
The language version of the preview copy must have Czech or English subtitles (unless the film is directly in Czech).

5. Selected films
5.1. A submitted film may not be withdrawn from the festival programme after the official submission to the festival competition has been submitted. In the event that this situation arises, the applicant shall reimburse the organiser for all demonstrable costs associated with the film's non-inclusion and the change of programme. Films not selected for competition may be shown out of competition.
5.2 Information embargo
All information relating to a film's invitation to the Festival programme is subject to an information embargo and as such will remain confidential between the Festival staff and the entrant until the Festival itself makes this known.
5.3 Required materials
The applicant shall send promotional materials for the film - annotation, synopsis, photographs, trailer (if available). In the case of subtitles, send an English dialogue sheet for subtitle translation or a timed set of English subtitles for translation. If available, the applicant will send accompanying materials, posters, educational manuals, trivia, interviews, etc. for the film.
5.4. Screening format
File: H264 (H265) / MP4 with information on available audio variations.
5.5 Shipping of copies
The film print will be sent to the festival address (by prior arrangement) at the expense of the applicant.
5.6 Screening Schedule
The Festival determines the schedule of all screenings and the order in which each film is screened. Each film may be screened twice during the Festival, but in the event of an award, the film may be screened a total of three times (screenings of the award-winning film), either within the Festival or as part of the Festival echoes.
5.7 Transport and insurance costs
Unless otherwise agreed, the applicant is responsible for the costs of transporting the screening print, promotional materials and insurance for their journey from the country of origin to the customs in Prague.
The Festival shall only pay the costs of the return transport of the print (excluding customs duties or any other charges in the country of delivery). The Festival will endeavour to accommodate the entrant with regard to the return delivery address.
The Festival is responsible for the costs of insuring the screening print against loss, destruction or partial damage between the time it is received by the Festival and the time it is re-delivered to the carrier.
In the event of loss or destruction of a print during the Festival, the Festival shall be responsible only for the cost of making a new print at the current laboratory price list for the production of a standard print.
Complaints regarding the technical condition of a returned projection print must be communicated to the Festival in writing no later than seven (7) days after receipt. The insurance does not cover wear and tear caused by normal use.
5.8 Screenings
For films in competition, the organisers are entitled to use excerpts from the films of a maximum of 3 minutes for promotional purposes.

6. Prizes and juries
6.1 Composition of the jury
The jury is selected by the festival organiser and consists of young people aged 12-18.
A member of the jury cannot be someone who has been involved in the production or commercial distribution of any of the films screened in the respective competition. All members of the jury are bound to confidentiality.
The Festival Director, the Artistic Director or their representative may attend the jury meetings but shall not participate in the voting. The decisions of the juries are final.
6.2 Prizes
The prize for the best short film for the age group 12+ is awarded to the director of the film and is accompanied by a financial reward of 500 euros.
The prize for the best short film for the age group 15+ is awarded to the director of the film and is accompanied by a financial reward of 500 euros.
The jury may award a special prize/recognition, this prize is not linked to a financial reward. The award can be given to both film and film professionals.

7. Dates
7.1. The festival will take place from 25 September 2024 to 29 September 2024 in Prague. The festival management may extend or change the date.
7.2. The deadline for entering the competition is 31 May 2024 inclusive. The festival management may extend or change the deadline.

8. Conclusion
Entry to or participation in the Festival programme implies acceptance of these Statutes. In unclear situations or cases not foreseen by these Statutes, the Festival Management will make the final decision. Doubts arising from the interpretation of these Statutes shall be resolved by the Festival Management.
