Welcome to the Gloucester Independent Film Festival!

We aspire to promote, recognise and support independent filmmakers by providing a community and opportunity to network with other emerging industry talents. Bringing us all together to connect, learn, and grow. We welcome submissions from a range of genres and formats including short films, features, documentaries, animations, and screenplays.

Not only will we screen the UK based official selections in the renowned Gloucester Guildhall cinema but we are aiming to create a community to help and celebrate independent film-makers and their creations. We aim to establish personal relationships with our worldwide submitters, as we always enjoy the opportunity to view your works, be able to celebrate your accomplishments in film, but most importantly help where we can!

Awards & Prizes

We will screen all UK based official selections in the renowned cinema at the Gloucester Guildhall and award the nominees in the main hall in the evening. In addition to this, for all of our International submissions, these will be announced and celebrated seperately through a bespoke digital ceremony on our social media and website to ensure that all countries can take place equally.

Gloucester Independent Film Festival only awards the best independent films and filmmakers after an extensive evaluation process. Our jury evaluates the level of quality, filmmaking, and storytelling ability.


You will be sent "nominee" “award winner” and “official selection” laurels, to help market your film.


All winners will also receive a physical and digital certificate engraved with your film, name, and “Gloucester Independent Film Festival”.

How We Judge Your Project ⚖️
Your submissions are viewed by an initial jury that rates each submission on various categories, including creative ability, ingenuity, pacing, skill, and level of production. This helps them to decide which submissions make it into the final stage where the jury will re-watch the selected submissions to make sure we curate an outstanding line-up.

Rules & Terms

To submit a film, you must have created the project yourself, own the rights or have permission from the owner of the content to submit the film to us.

Please read all the rules and requirements before submitting your project:



1. We do not accept any films completed before 2022.
2. Any non-English language films must include English subtitles.
3. All fees are non-refundable.
4. We encourage Student filmmakers to submit but you must present a valid Student ID in order to benefit from the student discount.
5. GIFF is not responsible for non-functioning films.
6. GIFF is a competitive event and unless notified otherwise, all films officially selected are eligible for competition.
7. All submitted films are nominated and voted on by a jury of professionals working within the industry, especially from an independent point of view.
8. All and any genres are considered eligible for nomination into one or more competitive categories.
9. A fee is required upon submission. For payment information, visit the FilmFreeway website.
10. The same project can be entered into one or more categories, but each category requires an entry fee.

    I had such a brilliant time at this year’s Gloucester Film Festival! A huge shoutout to Oscar Wenman-Hyde and Joshylee who ran the event. It was incredibly well-organised, and it was lovely speaking to you after and getting to know you both a bit more.

    I was so happy and grateful to have ASMODEUS win best Feature length Screenplay. It really was a huge honour. So big thanks.

    This film festival was really special. I hope to come back next year and see all your lovely faces again.

    I have to say that this is one of the BEST festivals I have attended, you would never know that it was their 2nd. Both Oscar and Joshy were amazing at communication; they really put so much thought into how we, as creatives, could network, giving everyone a badge to make it easier to start a conversation. The event itself was slick, with some fabulous films screening, and the evening was the same...all ran on time, presented like pros, wonderful informative Q&A's, great photographer doing Red Carpet stills...just super friendly and welcoming. Oh, and I won Best Short Film Script! Which finished off a fabulous day...will absolutely be attending again.
