XXIX FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE GUANAJUATO CONVOCATORIA PARA INSCRIPCIÓN DE PELÍCULAS
EL FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE GUANAJUATO tiene por objetivo brindar un espacio para la exhibición y apreciación de cine de calidad, incentivando de esta forma a los artistas en la creación de más cine. Al mismo tiempo procura reunir a los profesionales de la industria y a los que desean ingresar a este grupo de creadores para provocar el encuentro y la unión de fuerzas en un entorno abierto, accesible, diverso y competitivo.
LA XXIX EDICIÓN DEL FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE CINE GUANAJUATO se celebrará del 24 de julio al 2 de agosto 2026.
CATEGORÍAS EN COMPETENCIA
CORTOMETRAJES (duración máxima de 30 min. incluyendo créditos) en formato de cine, video o digital, cuya fecha de cumplir producción sea posterior al 1 de enero del 2025 podrán participar en las siguientes categorías: FICCIÓN, EXPERIMENTAL, ANIMACIÓN, DOCUMENTAL, REALIDAD VIRTUAL, MÉXICO y GUANAJUATO (para producciones locales).
LARGOMETRAJES (con duración de más de 45 min.) en formato de cine, video o digital, que no hayan concretado distribución en las salas cinematográficas del país y cuya fecha de cumplir producción sea posterior al 1 de enero del 2025, podrán competir en las siguientes categorías:
LARGOMETRAJE DOCUMENTAL INTERNACIONAL, LARGOMETRAJE DOCUMENTAL MÉXICO, LARGOMETRAJE DE FICCIÓN INTERNACIONAL, LARGOMETRAJE DE FICCIÓN MÉXICO, LARGOMETRAJE EXPERIMENTAL Y NO FICCIÓN.
EXHIBICIÓN. La Dirección del Festival acordará el orden y la fecha de exhibición de cada trabajo. Los trabajos inscritos podrán ser seleccionados para muestras fuera de competencia y/o designados a cualquiera de nuestras secciones oficiales de acuerdo a lo que el comité de organización considere conveniente (Con la autorización previa).
CONDICIONES
Para ser consideradas, las películas tienen que registrarse a través del formato de inscripción disponible en FilmFreeway.com ( https://filmfreeway.com/GIFFMX) . Las inscripciones deben ser acompañadas de copias de visionado digitales (screeners).
El registro de cortometrajes para realizadoras y realizadores mexicanos durante la primera etapa de inscripciones será gratuito este periodo comprende desde el (15 de enero hasta 1 de marzo) posterior a estas fechas el registro tendrá un costo por cortometraje de 15 USD)
Para cortometrajes provenientes de todo el mundo el costo será:
Pronto registro - será de $25 UDS (desde enero 15 hasta 1 de marzo 2026)
Periodo regular -será de $30 USD (desde marzo 2 hasta el 1 de abril 2026)
Periodo tardío - será de $35 USD (periodo tardío 2 al 15 de abril 2026)
Para largometrajes de ficción, documental y otras categorías; provenientes de todo el mundo el costo:
Pronto registro - será de $30 UDS (desde enero 15 hasta 1 de marzo 2026)
Periodo regular - será de $35 USD (desde marzo 2 hasta 1 de abril 2026)
Periodo tardío - será de $40 USD (desde 2 al 15 de abril 2026)
Los cuales serán depositados por medio de FilmFreeway.
No existe límite de inscripción para el número de películas por realizador ni por entidad productora.No se aceptan videoclips, ni trabajos comerciales o con fines de propaganda política. En la categoría de Realidad Virtual tampoco se acepta gaming, realidad aumentada ni experiencias no-narrativas.
Para ser admitidos, los materiales deberán presentarse en idioma español, inglés o subtitulado en cualquiera de los dos idiomas.
Los proyectos de Realidad Virtual (VR) deben ser reproducibles en Meta Quest 2 o 3 o HTC Vive. Para su evaluación el screener deberá ser enviado posterior al registro en filmfreeway en un link a un archivo descargable de video 360º (.mp4) o build .exe ó .apk al email: epicentro@guanajuatofilmfestival.com
Es requisito para la inscripción enviar un “press kit” electrónico EPK con toda la información técnica de la película a través de FilmFreeway, incluyendo los siguientes materiales: 3 fotogramas de la película (stills en formato JPG o PNG a 300 dpi); sinopsis de la obra (inglés y español); breve biografía del director (inglés y español); fotografía del director (en formato JPG o PNG a 300 dpi); ficha con todos los aspectos técnicos y con lista de créditos por departamento, texto breve del director. La fecha límite de inscripción y envío de materiales es el 15º de Abril, 2026.
Una vez enviada e inscrita una película a través de la convocatoria, la película no podrá ser retirada.
En ningún caso se pagará por los derechos de exhibición de un trabajo.
Las películas seleccionadas son elegibles para formar parte de las muestras itinerantes nacionales e internacionales del festival.
SELECCIÓN Y JURADO. La selección de los trabajos será competencia del festival por el equipo de programación y miembros del comité de preselección y selección. La selección y decisión del comité será inapelable.

PREMIOS. A los ganadores se entregarán premios y reconocimientos en cada categoría competitiva de las secciones oficiales. Cada reconocimiento será decisión de un jurado internacional formado por profesionales del medio cinematográfico y artístico relacionados con las distintas bellas artes, cuyos nombres serán dados a conocer oportunamente. Las decisiones de los jurados serán inapelables. Los premios pueden incluir trofeos, dinero o equipo y servicios en especie otorgados por nuestros aliados y patrocinadores, por ejemplo; servicios de postproducción, distribución, equipo cinematográfico, etcétera.
CALIFICACIÓN PARA LOS PREMIOS DE LA ACADEMIA. Los cortometrajes ganadores en las categorías de Cortometraje Ficción, Cortometraje Animación y Cortometraje Documental podrán ser considerados para la nominación a los premios de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas de los Estados Unidos (Academy Awards®), siempre y cuando cumplan con los demás requerimientos de la academia. XXIX GUANAJUATO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL CALL FOR FILM SUBMISSIONS
OBJECTIVE. The primary objective of the Guanajuato International Film Festival is to provide more opportunities for the exhibition and appreciation of films, rewarding their quality so as to allow the artists to continue producing. At the same time, we intend to bring together newcomers alongside the industry’s most seasoned professionals, to join forces in a very open, accessible, diverse and competitive environment.
EVENT DATES. The XXIX edition of the Guanajuato International Film Festival will be celebrated from July 24 to August 2, 2026.
CATEGORIES OF COMPETITION. The following categories of competition have been established:
Shorts (up to 30 minutes including credits) filmed in any film, video or digital format completed after January 1st, 2025 are eligible to compete in the following categories:
INTERNATIONAL FICTION, MEXICAN FICTION, INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY, MEXICAN DOCUMENTARY, EXPERIMENTAL, ANIMATION, VIRTUAL REALITY and GUANAJUATO (for local productions). Features (over 45 minutes), filmed in any film, video or digital format, completed after January 1st, 2025, and that have not yet acquired distribution in commercial theaters within Mexico are eligible to compete in the following categories:
INTERNATIONAL FEATURE FILM FICTION, MEXICAN FEATURE FILM FICTION, INTERNATIONAL FEATURE DOCUMENTARY, MEXICAN FEATURE DOCUMENTARY.
EXHIBITION. The Festival shall determine the order and date of exhibition of each work. Submissions may also be invited to participate in out-of-competition programs, and/or assigned to any of our official sections as deemed appropriate by the organizing committee. (With prior authorization)
CONDITIONS.
Films must be submitted through the official registration form available on FilmFreeway.com (https://filmfreeway.com/GIFFMX) . Secure online screeners should be submitted with the application.
Registration cost for short films is:
Early bird deadline, $25 USD (January 15 to March 1, 2026)
Regular deadline, $30 USD (march 2 to april 1, 2026)
Late deadline, $35 USD (April 2 to April 15 2026)
Per film for worldwide short films, payable through the registration platform.
For international feature films Registration the cost:
Early deadline - $30 USD (January 15 to March 1, 2026)
Regular deadline - $35 USD (March 2 to April 1, 2026)
Late deadline - $40 USD (April 2 to April 15, 2026)
The registration of feature films for Mexican filmmakers during the period:
Early deadline - is free of charge (January 15 to March 1, 2026) After these dates, registration will cost: Regular deadline - $15 USD (March 2 to April 1, 2026)
There is no limit to the amount of films that a filmmaker or producer may register.
Music videos, commercial work, and political propaganda are not accepted. In the VR category, gaming, augmented reality and non-narrative experiences are not eligible.
In order to be considered, the materials must be presented in Spanish, English, or with subtitles in either of these two languages.
Virtual Reality (VR) projects must be playable on Meta Quest 2 or 3 or HTC Vive. For evaluation purposes, the screener should be submitted after registering on FilmFreeway, through a link to a downloadable 360º video file (.mp4) or a .exe or .apk build to the email: epicentro@guanajuatofilmfestival.com
When submitting your film, it is mandatory to include an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) through FilmFreeway.com including: at least 3 still photo from the film (in JPG or PNG format at 300 dpi); a synopsis of the film in Spanish and English; a brief biography of the director in Spanish, English, or both if available; director’s photograph (in JPG or PNG format at 300 dpi); data with all technical specifications, film credits and director statement.
The deadline for registration and delivery of materials is April 15, 2026.
Once a film has been submitted for participation it cannot be withdrawn.
The festival does not pay screening fees. Selected films may form part of the festival’s travelling showcases, participating around the world.
SELECTION AND JURIES. The selection will be carried out by the festival organization’s programming team, and members of the pre-selection and selection committee. The selection decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

AWARDS. The festival organization will present each participant in competition with a certificate of selection. Additionally, prizes and recognitions will be awarded to films in each competitive category. Each distinction will be decided by an international jury, made up of film industry professionals and arts industries related to the various fine arts, whose names shall be announced shortly before the festival. The jury’s decision is final and cannot be appealed. Prizes may include trophies, cash awards, or materials and services granted by festivals sponsors, such as post-production services, equipment, etc.
ACADEMY AWARDS QUALIFICATION. Recipients of the festival’s awards for Best Short Fiction, Best Short Documentary and Best Short Animation will qualify for consideration in the Short Film categories of the annual Academy Awards® (Oscars) of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - for further information please visit www.oscars.org.
