The Melbourne Queer Film Festival is the oldest and largest queer film festival in Australia. Our main festival screens over 100 sessions of LGBTQIA+ films over 10 days running through November.

The 2026 Melbourne Queer Film Festival will be running from 12 Nov to 22 Nov.

Rules & Terms

Films submitted for the annual Melbourne Queer Film Festival should be of interest to the LGBTQIA+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/aromantic).

Films submitted, if selected, may be programmed at the festival's discretion not only as part of MQFF's extensive in-cinema program, but also as part of its on-demand streaming offering, MQFF+. MQFF+ will only be accessible to Australian audiences.

    Highly recommend submitting to MQFF! I had two films screen this year, a documentary short 'JASHA' and a stop-motion animation 'If/When'. Ro Bright, and the festival staff went above and beyond to ensure the festival ran smoothly, and people had a positive experience. I found the team very accomodating and friendly.
