ZOMPIRE: THE UNDEAD FILM FESTIVAL IS CURRENTLY ON HIATUS. However, we're currently bringing the same fun horror aesthetic and our trademark attention to detail to PORTLAND HORROR FILM FESTIVAL™. It's bigger, better, and has a much broader genre scope; not just vampires, zombies, and ghosts - PHFF wants all the things that go bump in the night, from Folk Horror to Bloody Slashers to Monster Movies and everything in between.

Zompire: The Undead Film Festival is an annual event that highlights independent filmmakers's creative attempts to show the undead in new and unexpected ways. From Zombies to Vampires to Ghosts and more Undead critters, spend the weekend watching the coolest, most intelligent, occasionally gruesome, and totally fun movies and events. We have screened such films as Eiji Uchida's DEAD BANGING (World Premiere) featuring an all-girl Japanese Heavy Metal band who finds fame with a Zombie vocalist, Dead Meat Walking: A Zombie Walk Documentary, Sound of Nothing, Patrick Shearer's They Will Outlive Us All (winner of the 2013 Le Gran' Zombi award), Thicker Than Water (a vampire tale written and directed by teens as part of the ReelGrrls project, which teaches filmmaking and media leadership skills to young girls), and Environmental Pressures and Species Adaptation (winner of the Abby Normal award) from wunderkind S. Korean director Jihyun Park.
That's just a taste! Zompire is a fun combination of independent short films, features, and music videos(!) from everywhere on the planet: the US and Canada, to Mexico, France, Japan, Korea, Australia, and more.
ZOMPIRE IS ALL INDEPENDENT FILMS! Independent filmmakers are the ones who take real risks, making movies with truly fresh ideas. Please join us and come enjoy these films you can't see at your local multiplex!
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
From the organizers of the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR, Zompire was created by founder Andrew Migliore in 2007 to showcase films about all things undead. Organized by Brian and Gwen Callahan since 2012, this unique festival specializes in artistic, adventurous, experimental, and often bloody short films, and the occasional independent feature, centered on Zombies, Vampires, ghosts, and other Undead beasties.
Zompire awards up to four lucky films each year in the following categories:
Tombe D'Or - Best overall film as selected by our jury
Le Gran' Zombie - Award for Independent excellence
Abby Normal Award - For innovative ideas and fresh voices in the Undead genre
The Horde Award - Audience Choice award, voted on by our attendees
Each award winner receives an award statuette and a fee waiver to submit to the following year's festival.
All filmmakers whose films have been selected to exhibit at Zompire, will be invited to attend the festival and take part in a Q&A, and will receive free (non-transferable) admittance to the festival (travel and lodging not included), as well as to any VIP events hosted by Zompire as part of the festival.
