The Austrian Independent Filmfestival is the biggest live event for independent films in Austria. The competition 2026 is held for Austrian & International Short Films, Musicvideos, Documentaries and Animations <20 minutes. The main competition takes place in winter.

For all films, the Regular Deadline is August 15st & the Late Deadline is October 1th 2026!

The cinema screenings and the award ceremony take place in winter 2026.

Please also note that only films with the production year 2022-2026 can be submitted.

Please note that we will only screen short films in the movie theatres, which are not open for the public. (But these films are part of the film competition).

Special screening of Austrian films during the whole year. These films are also part of the competition.

    Vielen lieben Dank an das Austrian Independent Filmfestival für die Aufnahme unseres Kurzfilms "Hecate" ins Programm – und dafür, dass wir die Nominierung in der Kategorie „Best Horror / Mystery“ gewinnen durften!

    Das ist eine große Ehre, und wir sind sehr glücklich, dass wir mit einigen Teammitglieder*Innen nach Wien gefahren sind, um das Festival zu besuchen. Wir hatten dort unglaublich viel Spaß!

    Es war ein wunderschönes, gemütliches Screening mit gleichgesinnten Menschen und einer wirklich spannenden Filmauswahl. Alle Werke waren sehr vielfältig, interessant, künstlerisch und technisch auf hohem Niveau gemacht.

    Vielen Dank an die Organisator*innen! Man merkt sofort, dass sie für ihre Arbeit brennen – und das spürt man auch daran, dass sie die Festival-Einreichungen für alle kostenlos ermöglichen und jedes Jahr Tausende Filme sichten, um ein so schönes Programm zusammenzustellen.

    Hoffentlich gibt es dieses Festival noch viele, viele Jahre! Wir kommen nächstes Jahr auf jeden Fall wieder.
