The HerStory Institute is presenting a year-round cinema series of films at the Plaza Theater in Atlanta GA. We seek submissions of work for the Fall Cinema Series which will begin in September and run through summer 2016.

This partnership between Community Education department at Watkins College of Art, Design & Film and Her Point of View, an international arts and entertainment festival supporting the creative work of women, will deliver thought provoking and entertaining films that highlight the writing, producing, directing, cinematography, production design and editing in films created by women.

The series will screen a range of features, shorts and documentary films including but not limited to independent and foreign films, classics, and festival favorites. In addition, the HerStory Institute will deliver monthly panels and/or workshops for film aficionados who desire a deeper understanding of the art and craft of film.

A screening fee will be paid beginning in Fall 2014.

Thank you for your interest in the year-round HerStory Cinema Series. The HerStory Cinema Series is solely dedicated to celebrating the best in films created by women from around the world and supporting the women who create them.

Films will be screened in the Watkins Theater which was once an abandoned Cineplex renovated into a state of the art movie theater inside the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film in Nashville TN. Top projects will be considered for inclusion in Her Point of View Arts, a four day festival scheduled for August 2014 in Nashville and tentatively scheduled for Chicago in September 2014 & Austin in October 2014.

BASIC PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:
• In order to qualify, one of the following positions must be held by a woman: Writer, Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Production Designer, or Editor.
• If the Director is a male, two of the other crew positions must be women and the film must be in support of women.
• Feature Films must be a minimum of 50 minutes.
• Short Films must be a maximum of 50 minutes.
• All genres/formats accepted. Must be screened on a DVD.
• Foreign films welcome with English subtitles required.

ONLINE SCREENERS:
In an effort to reduce our environmental impact and to simplify the process for all participants, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View encourages online submissions. If you choose to submit in this format, you must provide a link to a private YouTube video OR a link and password to a private Vimeo video. Only private YouTube or Vimeo links will be accepted. Submissions may not be withdrawn from the Festival once they have been entered, except at the discretion of the Festival Director. There are no refunds for entries with incomplete entry forms, or incorrectly formatted preview materials. NOTE: Festival reserves the right to rescind any screening engagement if the film is not delivered by deadline dates provided at the time of acceptance.

For mailed materials, we can only preview films on Region 0 or 1 DVD — all other formats will be discarded and the entry not accepted. Preview media will NOT be returned. I hereby state that I am authorized to submit this production to the HerStory Cinema Series. I hereby certify with my signature below that I am the owner of the exhibition and distribution rights of the project listed on this official entry form and, if accepted, I hereby grant HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View irrevocable non-exclusive permission to use said film as described in the entry form above. I also understand that I retain full ownership of said project and can continue to enjoy and exploit said ownership is any manner whatsoever.

By submitting your project, you are assigning non-exclusive rights to HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its affiliated sub-venues to use said film in conjunction with HerStory Cinema Series, Her Point of View, its officers, agencies and employees, and Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, its officers, agencies and employees, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s sponsors and associated websites.

The Official Entry Form, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement and the Official Regulations constitute the entire agreements between the parties with respect to the use of projects and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings regarding such subject matter. No amendment to or modification of this License will be binding unless in writing and signed by an authorized representative of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View. Nothing in this Agreement constitutes a waiver of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s rights under the United States of America patent and copyright laws or any other Federal or State law, nor of any of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s rights under the rules or laws of any country, territory, republic, and/or province.
By submitting your film, you expressly acknowledge and agree that you shall be bound by the terms of this agreement.

I/We wish to have our project entry titled (hereon called PROJECT) included in the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View. I/We grant the festival, its Creative Director, Regina McCord and the festival’s sponsors the right to show for promotional purposes in a theater, on the Her Point of View website (www.herpointofview.tv), on sponsors websites, flyers, posters, press releases, etc. any material including the PROJECT and/or stills submitted by me/us with this application. I/we understand that no materials included with this application will be returned.

I/we grant the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its officers, agencies and employees and its sponsors the full and free right and permission to use my/our PROJECT for festival programming and advertising in association with the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, for the purpose of viewing on television, in theatres, on the internet, on the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View website, on the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film website, on sponsors’ websites, podcasting and/or for archival purposes and for any other valid, lawful purpose in any and all media now known or hereafter developed or devised, worldwide and in perpetuity.

I/we waive any right to inspect or approve the finished videotape, sound track, photograph, advertising copy, audio piece or printed matter that may be used for advertising or to the eventual use that it may be applied.

I/we hereby release, discharge and agree to hold harmless the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its officers, agencies and employees, and Watkins College of Art, Design & Theater, its officers, agencies and employees, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s sponsors from and against any liability as a result of any use, distortion, blurring or alteration that may occur or be introduced in any use or broadcast of the material.

I/we grant the festival permission to give a copy of the PROJECT to industry members if requested. Industry, includes but is not limited to network executives, agents, managers, casting directors and others that can aid in the future securing of work.

I/we waive any and all rights to compensation for any broadcast, duplication, and advertising of any PROJECT presented at the festival. All ownership of all PROJECTS remain with the personnel who contributed to the PROJECT. I/we own all material submitted with application and that will be viewed at the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View related activities:

Screening Series.
I/we understand that the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its producers, sponsors and the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film are relying on this release and accordingly, I/we hereby irrevocably waive any and all rights to seek or obtain any injunction or other equitable relief against the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its officers,
agencies and employees, and Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, its officers, agencies and employees, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s sponsors.

I/we warrant that the use of the rights granted here and of any material supplied by me/us will not violate the rights of any third party. I/we agree to defend, indemnify and hold Release and Hold Harmless Agreement harmless the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, its officers, agencies and employees, and Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, its officers, agencies and employees, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View sponsors from any claims by third parties alleging that our content or material infringes on any third party’s rights. This Release and Hold Harmless Agreement shall bind my assigns and any representative,

OFFICIAL REGULATIONS

A.) Eligibility Requirements
1. Films completed on or after January 1, 2012 are preferred. Any completion dates are acceptable.

2. Films must In order to qualify, one of the following positions must be held by a woman: Writer, Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Production Designer, or Editor.

If the Director is a male, two of the other crew positions must be women and the film must be in support of women.

3. Films must be a Nashville, Chicago or Austin premiere or at the very least be a premiere in 2 of the 3 cities. Films that have (a) screened publicly in the Nashville, Austin or Chicago area, (b) have a theatrical run in the US prior to the Festival, (c) have aired on US television prior to the Festival (d) are available for purchase on DVD in North America or (e) are available for public online viewing in their entirety are not eligible.

EXCEPTION: You receive an invitation to submit directly from the Festival programming committee.

4. Films shown at private screenings not open to the public (for crew, investors, etc.) are eligible.

5. All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English. Dialogue lists are not accepted.

However, in an effort to promote a global narrative, films without English subtitles may be considered if it is the intention of the filmmaker to produce a work where the story is communicated by means beyond language. If this is your intention, indicate on the submission form in the appropriate area that you are aware of these special judging criteria for your film. Please assume that your viewer has no knowledge of the film’s native language, so choose this option carefully.

6. If submitting multiple films, a separate entry form and additional entry fee must be submitted for each film.

B.) Submission Guidelines

1. Films must be submitted either via secure Online platform or on DVD. Blu-ray discs and tape formats are not accepted.

2. Only complete entries (including fee payment and either functioning secure Online Screener or DVD screeners) will be considered.
3. Entrants are permitted to submit works-in-progress features ONLY (i.e. without final color correction or sound mixing), but please note that the programming committee will only consider the version submitted. Subsequent cuts or replacement copies will only be accepted at the request of the programming committee.

4. To qualify for student entry fee rates (if offered), entrant must include proof of student status at the time of production (i.e. copy of student ID with enrollment dates printed, transcripts, etc.)

5. The following exhibition formats are eligible for Festival screening: DVD and Blu-ray. Other formats may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

6. Filmmakers must provide a DVD copy of their accepted film for permanent retention in the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View archives.

C.) Deadlines
For consideration in the Summer Cinema Series, entries must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2014. All projects received after this date will be considered for the Fall Cinema Series beginning in September 2014.

C.) Shipping
1. The cost of shipping an entry to the Festival must be paid by the Entrant. Collect or COD shipments will not be accepted. All international entries must be sent “free domicile” to the Festival office with all transportation charges, duties, and taxes prepaid by the shipper.

2. Do not send the media in fiber filled envelopes as the dust can damage the media and viewing equipment.

3. Do not send film prints, master media or other originals.

4. The HerStory Cinema Series nor Her Point of View, its members, directors, employees, nor volunteers are responsible for lost, misplaced, or undelivered film and media.

5. The HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View strongly recommend that the filmmaker obtain the necessary insurance coverage to protect him or her in the event of damage to, loss of, or theft of, the film or video.

6. Submissions may not be withdrawn from the festival once they have been entered, except at the discretion of the Festival director.

7. There are no refunds for entries with incomplete entry forms, or incorrectly formatted preview materials.

E.) Judging & Selection
1. Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, Short Films, TV Pilots and Webisodes are selected for Festival presentation during the HerStory Cinema Series and/or Her Point of View programming committee(s).

2. Submit early as there is a limited screening schedule.

3. The programming committee reviews films submissions in their entirety as they are received, and will select films on a rolling basis to advance to festival screening.

4. As films are programmed, we will contact the entrant by phone or email. Letters of inclusion or non-inclusion will be sent to the email address provided on the entry form.

5. The Festival does not send other forms of mail – please ensure that the email address on the official entry form is accurate. The Festival is not liable for emails delayed by spam filters, server rejections, or outdated email addresses.

6. If accepted into the Festival, the filmmaker grants permission for the film to be shown to all attendees of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View promotional materials.

F.) Entry Fees
Each entry must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. Entry fees are not refundable. Fees cover registration and notification of your results. These fees may be paid by money order or cashier’s check made payable to Her Point of View, Inc. or via PayPal using email address: submit@herpointofview.tv

G.) Programming
Films are programmed for public screening in a diverse selection of competitive and non-competitive categories. Each film is presented in one or more sections and is placed at the discretion of the programming committee.

H.) Filmmaker Attendance
The Festival encourages filmmakers to attend the screening of their project. We are disappointed to have to inform you that the Festival is unable to provide financial compensation for travel expenses or additional expenses incurred during the screening or festival at this time. We are working on the development of programs to offer financial assistance in the future.

J.) Publicity & Marketing

1. All selected projects may be excerpted for publicity purposes. The Festival reserves the right to promote any project to print, broadcast, internet media and any other media now known or developed in the future as required to market the Festival.

2. Filmmakers must include credit list, stills, posters, and other press material for the accepted film.

3. HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View reserves the right to use stills and/or clips from accepted films for publicity and printed materials, including the official screening and festival program and promotion of the screenings and festival. These materials will not be returned.

4. In addition, crew and cast members attending the HerStory Cinema Series and/or Her Point of View should be available for talkbacks, print, radio, or television interviews during the Festival and should keep the Festival Hospitality Manager updated on any changes to their schedule during the event.

5. Photo Specifications: A color photograph (CMYK) which is a minimum of 3.25 inches wide by 1.625 inches high, or 8.26 centimeters wide by 4.13 centimeters high, 300 dpi or greater, in jpeg format.

6. All marketing materials using the name/logo of HerStory Cinema Series, Her Point of View, Watkins College of Art, Design & Film or an affiliated sub-venue must be approved by the programming committee prior to distribution. Please email marketing materials to programming@herpointofview.tv for approval.

K.) Theatrical Screenings
By accepting inclusion in the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View, the filmmaker grants non-exclusive rights to showcase their film in the Cinema Series and Festival in as many screenings in multiple cities as required. In addition, the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View has non-exclusive rights to repeat the showcases throughout the year for fundraising purposes. All ticket sales are property of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View.

L.) Controlling Law, Venue & Severability
This License shall be governed by the laws of the United States and Tennessee without consideration of conflicts of laws, provisions and principles. All claims between the parties, regardless of legal theory and whenever brought, shall be resolved in the state or federal courts of the Commonwealth of Tennessee, USA, and you stipulate that you expressly submit to the personal jurisdiction of such state and federal courts, and you further agree that any judgment may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. If for any reason a court of competent jurisdiction finds any provision, or portion thereof, of this Agreement to be unenforceable, the remainder of this License shall continue in full force and effect.

M.) Complete Agreement
The Official Entry Form, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement and the Official Regulations constitute the entire agreements between the parties with respect to the use of projects and supercedes all prior or contemporaneous understandings regarding such subject matter. No amendment to or modification of this License will be binding unless in writing and signed by an authorized representative of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View. Nothing in this Agreement constitutes a waiver of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s rights under the United States of America patent and copyright laws or any other Federal or State law, nor of any of the HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View’s rights under the rules or laws of any country, territory, republic, and/or province.

N.) Indemnification
The Filmmaker agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless HerStory Cinema Series and Her Point of View and its directors, officers, other employees, affiliates, sub- licensees, and agents from and against all claims, losses, liabilities, demands, and defense costs (including reasonable experts and attorneys’ fees), judgments and other expenses (collectively “Losses”) arising out of or on account of the Filmmakers breach or

I, the undersigned, acknowledge and agree to the following:
1. I have read, understand and fully comply with the festival specifications and guidelines included in the Official Entry Form, Release and Hold Harmless Agreement and the Official Regulations;

2. To the best of my knowledge, all of the statements in these documents are true;

3. This project is not subject to any litigation nor is it threatened by any litigation;

4. I have received proper authorization to use any materials that I do not own (including but not exclusive to footage, music, narration, etc.);

5. I am duly authorized to submit this film to the Festival; and

6. I am duly authorized to execute the aforementioned agreements required for the submission of this project to the Festival.
