Named by MovieMaker Magazine one of its Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, the Woodstock Film Festival is the landmark film festival of Upstate New York and an Academy Award®–qualifying festival for Short Narrative, Short Documentary, and Short Animation. Now entering its 27th year, WFF has grown from a passionate dream into one of the country’s top indie film festivals.

The 27th Annual Woodstock Film Festival returns October 14–18, 2026, presenting five days of dynamic, thought-provoking, and unforgettable independent cinema across the Hudson Valley, just two hours north of New York City. Beyond screenings, WFF features intimate panels, engaging Q&As, live musical performances, and extensive filmmaker participation—more than 90% of directors attend each year.

Set amid the fall colors and creative energy of Woodstock, Saugerties, and Kingston, the festival offers an exceptional environment for networking with high-caliber filmmakers, artists, and industry leaders. In 2025, WFF welcomed over 9,000 attendees, issued more than 13,000 tickets and 980 passes, and showcased 40 narrative features, 27 documentaries, and 131 short films, awarding more than $13,000 in cash prizes.

In keeping with Woodstock’s legacy rooted in art, music, activism, and creative experimentation—submitted films may also be considered for our Woodstock Legacy programming. If your film explores themes of art or artists (in any medium), music or music videos, experimental work, activism, or environmentalism, please note this in your application for special consideration.

We welcome films across all genres and subjects and look forward to discovering your work!

Enhance Your Screening: If your film offers opportunities to create a special event around its screening, we’d love to hear about it! For example:
– A musician or performer featured in your film who could attend or perform.
– A filmmaker, artist, or subject of your film who could participate in a Q&A or panel.
– Any unique activity, discussion, or audience engagement related to your film that could complement your screening.

Please include these ideas in your cover letter or application. Let us know who or what can attend to make your screening even more memorable—together we can help create a standout festival experience!.

All films submitted must be Hudson Valley Premieres. A New York State Premiere is strongly preferred. Films are not eligible if they screened at another U.S. film festival more than one year before the upcoming Woodstock Film Festival.

The Hudson Valley includes Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester counties.

We cannot accept films that have already been released theatrically, broadcast on television, or made available online or through public digital distribution. Retrospective or archival titles may be considered as exceptions.

Please make sure all rights are fully cleared before submitting.
We also ask for a complete and accurate screening history; submissions without this information cannot be reviewed.

There’s no need to send a press kit. They are not required for the screening process and will not be reviewed—save your time, resources, and the environment.

Films submitted by email will not be considered.

You may resubmit a film only if you are presenting a significantly updated version.

Work-in-progress cuts are allowed as long as the film will be completed at least four weeks before the festival. The version you submit is the version we will review, and updated cuts cannot be substituted later. If selected, the final version must be delivered by the print-traffic deadline provided upon acceptance. Please let us know what elements are incomplete.

Submission fees are non-refundable, including if you choose to withdraw your film.

We are unable to offer submission fee waivers. A very limited number of discounts may be available to alumni directors and producers; alumni may inquire at entries@woodstockfilmfestival.org, but availability is not guaranteed.

The Woodstock Film Festival is a not-for-profit organization, and the submission fees help cover seasonal staff, prepare the program, and assist with filmmakers’ attendance and hospitality.

If you have questions about your submission, you may contact entries@woodstockfilmfestival.org. We receive a large volume of emails, so thank you for your patience.

All films are watched by festival screeners and programmers. Screeners view films without press kits or filmmaker information. Each film receives a rating and at least one comment. During the final selection process, scores, comments, and programming discussions all help guide decisions. Creativity, subject matter, production quality, and originality all play a role. Final decisions are made by the programming team.

Feedback may be requested at entries@woodstockfilmfestival.org, though we may not be able to provide it due to the number of submissions.

An amazing festival with a beautifully curated lineup of films. Meira, the founder, and her team were wonderful to work with—organized, thoughtful, and welcoming. I was humbled to have our film Outdoor School nominated for Best Feature and Best Editing. The networking opportunities at and around the festival were outstanding. Highly recommend!

My narrative feature film Mildlife had its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival and it was an amazing experience. The festival is well organized, great communication, amazing opportunities to meet other filmmakers and network. As an emerging filmmaker, this was my first narrative feature film and I truly feel that Woodstock Film Festival supports indie film and filmmakers. I will submit again in the future and hope to be back one day!

Our feature, Floating Carousel, had its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival and we can't imagine a more supportive environment and more wonderful cinema house than the Tinker Street Cinema for our world premiere. It was wonderful to connect and network with other filmmakers at screenings and parties. The staff was so supportive and kind. There's a huge community of locals that love to come and support the festival. And we were so honored to have won the Ultra Indie Award for Best Narrative Feature. Thank you so much to Meira, Amir and the whole team at Woodstock. We'd love to come back!
