We Like 'Em Short Film Festival celebrates Animation and Comedic short films. We provide a platform for independent filmmakers, seasoned and emerging, to share their talent. This festival seeks original, entertaining animated and comedy shorts from around the world.

We Like ‘Em Short allows aspiring and professional filmmakers the chance to show their films in beautiful Baker City, a small community known for embracing the arts. The festival also acts as a funding source for the Baker High School new media classes.

WLES was started in 2010 as a very small local festival featuring local and American filmmakers. In 2012 we began taking submissions online and thanks to that change, we’ve screened films from all over the world while still priding ourselves as a festival that showcases local and regional filmmakers.

WLES has seen it's share of international award winning shorts and hosted talented directors including Chel White, Doug Lussenhop, Benjamin Morgan and Joanna Priestly in recent editions of this four day festival. WLES is centrally located at the historic Eltrym Theater, in downtown Baker City, OR. All films are shown on Theater 1's giant screen through a Christie Digital Projector.

We were honored to receive the Ovation Award from the Oregon Festival and Events Association in 2014, which recognized us as the Best Fine Art or Performing Arts Festival in Oregon.

Be creative, make us laugh and keep it short.

As a filmmaker, I had several questions about the festival and each time I found the people very responsive and friendly addressing my concerns. This is an also a prestigious and well-organized festival!

A wonderful experience, incredible people behind the festival with real passion for film and especially short films.
They hosted great after parties after every night and had a wonderful closing concert (that I had to miss due to travel, but they had as special guests the band Telekinesis!).
In short, one of the best experiences I've ever had :)
Great people, great films and great venue!

    Thanks Diana,

Your film was a great addition to our program this year and we were so glad to have you in attendance to share your inspiration and to talk about your process. We also loved talking about your festival and sharing ideas and discussing the selection process with you. We look forward to what you create next.

Baker City is an absolute jewel, with the friendliest of people that complement the city's unique history and culture. The festival staff and volunteers were amazingly supportive and fun to hang out with. And its focus on short short-films keeps every screening brisk and lively. A perfect weekend!

A gem of a festival in a beautiful piece of the Pacific Northwest, WLES was a perfect place to screen "Jailbreak" to an audience of film lovers and makers who appreciate the short medium. In addition to being a well-attended and supported festival, you'll find good food, great music, art lovers and breathtaking landscapes in Baker City. Well worth the drive from Portland.

We just LOVE "Jailbreak"!!! Aaron and his crew did such an amazing job, we want more and are completely satisfied and laughing ourselves silly without needing a single second more of a story. The perfect timing and incredible sets make this an award winner. Thanks for being part of this year's WLES.
