ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Moviemaker magazine, in its spring 2008 issue, listed the Route 66 Film Festival as one of the 25 festivals worth the entry fee. Ours was also a featured festival at the 2009 International Film Festival Summit in Las Vegas.

The Route 66 Film Festival began in 2002 as a part of the Mother Road Festival, celebrating the vehicles and history of the famous highway. It is currently a separate event from the car show. We have screened films from many countries, including Belgium, France, South Africa, Japan, Brazil, Spain, Great Britain, Uruguay, Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

We celebrate diversity and welcome films of all lengths and genres. We like good stories that inform and touch us. Judges select films for official awards. This is a festival that has something for everyone.

Several films screened at our festival have subsequently received distribution on Netflix and gone on to be honored at other festivals. We are proud that three of the short films screened at our festival have also been nominated for Oscars.

All entries selected for the festival will receive 2 free passes to the festival. Film makers are invited and encouraged to attend to interact with other film makers and the audience.

Trophies will be awarded for judges' choices in various categories including Best of Fest. The committee reserves the right to not present awards in all categories and to add categories for films that merit special recognition.

What a fun festival! The organizers were beyond sweet. Their communication was fantastic. We received gift bags that were specially curated for us as filmmakers! It was such a fun experience and Springfield is a beautiful city just roaring with history. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to show our short film Most Likely to Succeed with such a fantastic slate of other films. We cannot wait to be back!

Thank you, Olivia, for your kind words. We loved having you and Nathan as our guests! And happy to introduce your extraordinary animation to our audience. I learned something from "Draft Paper" and the story will stay with me for a long time. Best of luck in your future endeavors. --Lana

We were blown away when "The Voice That Rocked America - The Dick Biondi Story" won the Hugh Moore Best of Fest award. Aside from the thrill of winning, my team and I had a remarkable experience at the 24th Annual Route 66 International Film Festival in Springfield, IL. Director Lana Wildman, Christine Samoore, and their dedicated volunteers went out of their way to think of everything to make the 2-day event outstanding. We felt appreciated as filmmakers and met some fascinating creative folks. Thanks to an amazing team who couldn't do enough for us, we highly recommend you go see for yourself and meet a warm welcoming band of film lovers. Kudos to all!

    Response from festival:

Pamela, thank you so much for your kind words and for attending the Festival. Having filmmakers there always makes it more exciting. We all enjoyed meeting you and Linda and Janet. Your documentary of Dick Biondi was extremely well done and well-deserved the top award. As someone who listened to Dick Biondi "back in the day" and knew he was wonderfully different, I enjoyed learning that he was also a really nice guy. Thanks! --Lana

Hospitality, hospitality, hospitality! The festival producers made my co-producer and I feel like VIPs, including a tour of the larger facility and a gift basket including 'themed' socks! So glad we made the trip, it was great to meet the producers, see some fun films (short and long), and meet some of the other filmmakers.

    Response from festival:

Thanks, Corey! You and Ryan were such fun and entertaining guests, hope to see you again! Your film noir comedy was wonderful. Looking forward to more. Glad you enjoyed the socks -- how can we ever forget the sucker "cigarette"!

Wow, where do I even start? The Route 66 Film Festival was our best film festival experience ever. Lana Wildman, Christine Samoore and the entire board and team of volunteers made us feel so welcome, took such good care of us, and obviously have a deep love and appreciation of film. Independent cinema genuinely lives at this festival. There was a wonderfully curated selection of film from across the globe; compelling films that make you think, laugh and cry. With such a selection, we were both shocked and humbled that our little FIlm Noir, Xpendable, was selected for Best Drama. Filmmakers, do yourself and your film a favor and submit to this festival. Springfield, IL, is a great city to visit and this is a great festival to highlight your work.

    Response from festival:

Walter, thank you so much for your kind words; you made me teary. We all enjoy introducing independent films to a wider audience and were happy to share Xpendable (who doesn't like a clever Film Noir?). We are so pleased that you and Susan had a good time and enjoyed the Lincoln sites in Springfield. -- Lana
