Submissions are now open for the 11th edition of the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival which will take place November 1-5th, 2024.

NEW CHITOSE 2024 is an animation festival dedicated to animated films held at the terminal building of New Chitose Airport (Hokkaido, Japan), which connects Hokkaido with the rest of the world.
The festival not only attracts attention as one of the few film festivals in the world where all screenings, lodgings, and stays are completed at the airport but also boasts the largest number of entries in the competition section in Japan. The festival also offers a multifaceted program introducing animation, including lectures by Japanese and foreign creators and exhibitions in public spaces. It has now grown into one of Japan’s top animation film festivals.

Last year the festival received more than 2,000 works in all categories. The winners were “In Dreams” (Short Grand Prix, directed by Josh SHAFFNER), ”Chicken for Linda!” (Feature Grand Prix, directed by Chiara MALTA, Sébastien LAUDENBACH), “Vision” (Japan Grand Prix, directed by Çağıl HARMANDAR), and else.

    Shin Chitose Airport Festival was great. We started with a great opening ceremony and ended with a closing party and ceremony. The competitions were interesting, the selection is diverse. They were so generous with the food at the ceremonies, the hotel stay, giving the directors even financial support for their travels and coupons to spend in the airport for meals etc. All of the team and organizers are really kind and communicative and very helpful. Really one of a kind animation festival in the world, any animator should experience this 🗾🙏
