The Erie International Film Festival Call For Entries is now open to the US and International filmmakers, and we shall accept all genres of film including Narrative Features, Narrative Shorts, Animation Features and Shorts, Experimental Features and Shorts, and all forms of Horror, Suspense and Thriller films of Short and Feature length, all lengths of Comedies and Documentaries, along with Feature and Short lengths of GLBT and Religious/Spirituals films, along with Music Videos for the 2017 festival.

Our festival is seeking the best films that the world has to offer while working to give new and veteran Independent Filmmakers the attention they deserve.

As a 501c(3) non-profit, the Erie International Film Festival will accept submissions of films regardless if those films are of world premiere status at the time of submission, or if the film has been screened publicly or otherwise distributed anywhere at the time of submission.

Film enlightens the world, opens our eyes, and shows us things we do not see every day, and makes us feel things we do not always feel. Across countries, languages and classes, a film has the ability to provide us with a release, an escape, forgetting the real world and the cares of everyday life while expanding the imagination and opening the door to new possibilities.

Our festival introduces independent filmmakers the world over to Erie Pennsylvania, as our City embraces the arts and culture that the worldwide filmmaking community delivers with new stories, and new points of view.

The Erie International Film Festival celebrates new trends in digital media and recognizes Transmedia Filmmakers who employ an innovative, interactive, web-based or multi-platform approach to story creation. Through open submissions, selections will be presented to the public via state-of-the-art-technology.

Our Festival’s mission is to help filmmakers reach the broadest possible audience while allowing the general public to experience the power of cinema in the digital age while showcasing the City of Erie as not only an excellent tourist destination but as a filmmaking alternative of the East Coast.

In addition to our live Film Festival event that will take place in December 2017, our festival will expand its reach beyond the great City of Erie Pennsylvania, offering to both filmmakers who may not be able to attend our festival, and to independent film lovers around the world, the opportunity to take part in our festival through a unique virtual theater platform with our online festival, December 7 – December 16, 2017.

Much like with the digital technology that has swept independent film festivals throughout the world since the early 2000s, for many reasons the virtual theater is quickly becoming the first, best choice for festivals, and the new home of Independent film screening worldwide.

The virtual theater is the future of film festivals, as more and more festivals are now screening films online, and even the big festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival are moving to online screenings.

Our virtual theater allows the filmmaker’s work to be showcased to the world with the highest levels of security and presentation quality. Unlike any online screening system in the world, ours never allows films to be copied, downloaded, or reproduced in any way, nor can the HTML code of any film be copied and pasted into any other site successfully. No film launched in our virtual theater can play or even appear on any other website.

It was with much time and expense that this state-of-the-art and revolutionary online screening platform was developed, always keeping both the Filmmaker’s peace of mind.

Rules & Terms

PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL BELOW INSTRUCTIONS
Not following the guidelines, rules, regulations, or eligibility may be cause for disqualification.
By submitting to this competition, the entrant agrees to the entire following rule, terms and conditions of entry/submission.

Only one title per entry form. Productions from 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 may be submitted. Do not submit works in progress.

All films must be submitted in Digital .MP4 Film File Format (NTSC system only) for consideration. All films submitted must be available on DVD for presentation.

To ensure that your entry is properly processed, you must fill out the form completely and include proper payment.

Along with the film (Digital .MP4 Film File), press kits must include a black and white or color still of the film that is 1920x1080pxls or 1280x720pxls, a complete cast and crew list and a 250-word synopsis of the project must be included.

We will notify you by email when your entry has been received.

Films submitted must be no more violent and have no more adult content as that which would be considered as a NC-17 rated motion picture. NC-17 does not mean “obscene” or “pornographic” in the common or legal meaning of those words, and should not be construed as a negative judgment in any sense. The rating simply signals that the content is appropriate only for an adult audience. A NC-17 rating can be based on violence, sex, aberrational behavior, drug abuse or any other element that most parents would consider too strong and therefore off-limits for viewing by their children. If your film meets with this requirement then we welcome it.

Exhibition entries should be submitted as a .MP4 File format, unless a DVD is requested. No DVDs will be returned.

Participation in the Erie International Film Festival implies understanding and acceptance of all terms included in this application.

All entries must be received no later than the appropriate entry deadline they were submitted under. Additional entry fees will be required if not received by the appropriate deadline. Entries received with incomplete information and/or missing Fee Payments will not be considered.

Films submitted in the incorrect Category and/or submitted as a Short Length Film, but having a total runtime that is equal to that of a Feature Length Film, will be disqualified from consideration.

All films accepted into the 2016 Erie International Film Festival will be screened online through our Virtual Theatre system.

Our festival is presented in a virtual theater system that will allow users to watch the films while remaining completely safe from download or reproduction.

Films in this festival cannot be downloaded, the films HAVE NO EMBEDDING CODE and our HTML code if copied and pasted, the films will not play, and therefore they CANNOT be placed on other websites. The only time and place they can be viewed is in our festival. In short, we have gone to great lengths to set this system up to protect the safety and security of each filmmaker’s film always keeping the filmmaker in mind. Basically, it is just as secure as a brick and mortar theater screening, only much better.

You hear so much about the environment and global warming it got us thinking. When you realize how much power is used during the film fest – electricity for the building, natural gas for heat and the gasoline the people use to get to the fest it left one hell of a carbon footprint. By doing the whole festival online it actually helps cut down on greenhouse gases.

A great festival to be a part of, especially because the 'virtual theatre' element means that friends from all over the world were able to view my film. Really friendly and helpful team too.
