Since 2008, lovers of movies and music have come together at the Boomtown Film & Music Festival in Southeast Texas to see fiercely independent films, hear cutting-edge music, enjoy panel discussions and network with fellow filmmakers.

Five reasons you should submit your project to BoomFest 2027:
1. HIGH ACCEPTANCE RATE - We've expanded our screening time during the festival, which has allowed BoomFest to screen roughly the best 30% of entries every year!
2. COMPETITIVE PRICING - Being a volunteer-run 501(c)3 nonprofit organization has allowed Boomtown to keep its entry fees lower than other festivals of comparable size.
3. THOROUGH JUDGING - Every submission is rated and scored by multiple judges, even if they do not advance beyond the first phase of judging.
4. TRUSTED TRACK RECORD - There are now thousands of film festivals and it may be difficult to determine which ones are legitimate and which are scams, but Boomtown's film & screenplay competition has been run annually since our first festival in 2008 and has earned a trusted reputation.
5. THE CONFERENCE - The Boomtown Film & Music Festival is more than just screenings and an awards ceremony; our event includes educational panels with special guests, networking mixers, and a live reading of the year's 1st Place winning screenplay, in addition to the opportunity for selected filmmakers to interact with audiences during introductions and Q&As!

Awards will be given in the following categories:
NARRATIVE FEATURE
NARRATIVE SHORT
DOCUMENTARY
SCREENPLAY
EXPERIMENTAL FILM or MUSIC VIDEO
ANIMATED FILM
STUDENT FILM
"TEXAS PROUD" FILM
and INFORMATIONAL VIDEO

All 1st Place winners will received the coveted "Golden Gusher" trophy. The 1st Place winning screenplay will also be performed live as a staged reading during the Boomtown Film & Music Festival.

Our contest director reserves the right to create, eliminate or alter categories based upon the type, number and quality of entries. All decisions made by the judges are final.

By entering the contest you are stating that you are, or have the permission of, the submission’s copyright holder. If you are not the sole creator of the submission or any of its elements then you must first obtain permission from all rights holders of the creative property before submitting it to our festival. Additionally, by entering the contest you are giving the Boomtown Film & Music Festival permission to exhibit your work publicly as part of our festival.

Entries need to be English language or include English subtitles. Screenplay submissions must be written in English.

Our policy is to only accept works that were completed no earlier than two years prior to the event date. However, if there are extenuating circumstances we may consider accepting older projects.

Entrants may submit multiple works, and may submit the same work into multiple categories if it meets all category criteria.

For the convenience of all parties, Boomtown asks that film entries to be delivered electronically using common file formats (such as .mp4, .avi, .mov, .wmv, .flv, etc.). High definition (1080p) video files are strongly encouraged. We ask that file sizes be kept below 15 gigabytes.

We welcome EPKs (electronic press kits), production stills and other types of marketing materials that we could use to promote your entry.

  • Quite the HONOR to have been "SELECTED" to have our music video, "I'll Always Remember the Alamo...But Can't Recall Her Name"...and VIEWED at the Festival as well. A wonderful Texas Festival for every song writer and film maker to submit.

Had a really wonderful experience at this fest! Beaumont is a bit of a haul if you're not in Texas (you fly into Houston and then drive 1:30) but it was really worth it. Great opportunities to meet other filmmakers, great films. A very warm and cozy medium-sized fest that allows for maximum filmmaker camaraderie. They also gave us lots of free food and drink!
