10th Edition | 2026
The Barbados Independent Film Festival (BIFF) is a dynamic platform for films that engage with the most pressing issues of our time, from social justice and cultural identity to climate change and environmental resilience. Rooted in the Caribbean yet globally connected, BIFF centres the voices of those most affected, fostering a community grounded in inclusivity, regeneration, and meaningful dialogue.
BIFF places a special emphasis on subaltern and indigenous narratives, celebrating Caribbean storytellers alongside global filmmakers whose work speaks to lived experience, resistance, and transformation. By spotlighting stories at a local level, the festival creates space for wider global currents shaping our world today.
At its core, BIFF is a celebration of resilience and our collective capacity to overcome adversity. We welcome narrative, documentary, and short films that challenge, inspire, and connect audiences.
Selected filmmakers compete for a range of jury awards, festival honours, and audience awards, and their films are showcased within an immersive programme of themed events. These include our signature Gala Night at the Barbados Museum, Shorts on the Beach, gatherings at The Commons Social Club, and Cine Cuisine — a unique evening that brings together farmers, chefs, and filmmakers through food and film.
In recent editions, BIFF has expanded its global reach with the successful launch of Global Student Shorts and Africa Night, further strengthening international exchange and emerging voices.
A cornerstone of BIFF’s mission is its commitment to youth development and mentorship. Through the Parachute Film Studios + BIFF Collaboration Grant, the festival has supported emerging Barbadian filmmakers over the past three years, providing hands-on guidance, professional resources, and a platform to realise their creative visions. The grant has resulted in three award-winning films by young Barbadian filmmakers, demonstrating BIFF’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of storytellers and strengthening the local film ecosystem through meaningful collaboration.
Now entering its 10th edition, BIFF continues to grow as a vital meeting point for filmmakers, artists, activists, and audiences who believe in the power of cinema to imagine more just, sustainable futures.
