Dr. Ferhat Atik is a Turkish author, screenwriter, and director, as well as an Occupy Filmmakers and Occupy Writers activist. Born in Cyprus, he has pursued extensive academic and practical education at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in economics, communication, psychology, theology, and cinema, both domestically and internationally.
During his first undergraduate studies, Dr. Atik worked with the renowned author Aziz Nesin. Over the years, he has published nearly 8,000 articles in national and international newspapers and magazines, earning numerous awards. He has also served as a director, producer, and presenter for Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation, the state broadcaster of Cyprus. Dr. Atik has published more than fifty research and scientific articles focusing on media studies, and he has been a speaker and organizer at over 100 conferences, seminars, and workshops both locally and abroad.
He has held founding and board member roles in various civil society organizations and served for 25 years as the Coordinator of the Supreme Council of Broadcasting, the Cypriot equivalent of RTÜK. As a human rights activist, Dr. Atik has participated in numerous activities and served as a jury member in areas such as theses, short films, and media-related projects. He has taught and led many educational groups in his field, offering lectures on screenwriting, novels, essays, and philosophical writings.
Dr. Atik is the founder of Kimgazet, Cyprus's first internet newspaper and the world's first Turkish online newspaper. He continues to write columns for Şalom Gazetesi in Turkey and Kıbrıs Postası Gazetesi in Cyprus.
For the past 17 years, Dr. Atik has taught at the academic level, offering courses such as "Creative Writing," "New Media Paradigms," "Screenwriting," and "Documentary Film" to undergraduate and graduate students at Girne American University. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Cyprus American University.
Dr. Atik is recognized as the originator of the term "Terror Agency" in the academic literature and specializes in "Social Media and Terror Agencies," a subject on which he delivers conferences and seminars. His doctoral thesis also focuses on this area.
Having won nearly 80 international and academic awards, including those for screenwriting, novels, photography, documentaries, and film directing, Dr. Atik has authored 29 books, 16 films, 19 screenplays, and 23 international academic papers. He is in the process of obtaining his associate professorship in communication and psychology.
A member of the "World Biography Writers Association" and "PEN International," Dr. Atik was elected President of the 21st Century Humanity Forum in January 2020, a role supported by 11 countries.
For 29 years, Dr. Atik studied Sufism with Sheikh Nazim Kibrisi and has been teaching in this field for 27 years. He has conducted lectures, seminars, and workshops in various countries, including Turkey, Germany, 18 European nations, the USA, Egypt, Singapore, Azerbaijan, and Thailand.
Dr. Atik is the founder of the "Sufi Therapy Method" and has conducted tens of thousands of therapy sessions, integrating concepts of compassion and love into the process. He has also established the field of psycho-Sufism. In recent years, he has focused on hosting advanced Sufi education sessions and immersive Sufi camps.
Dr. Atik continues all these endeavors with a particular emphasis on his work in Sufism.
