Mutesa Faysal (Rwanda), I’m a Rwandan filmmaker; I spend my daily activities working into media design in different aspects. Art and Destiny, a film I directed, written, and produced, I’m proud that is set to be selected in different festivals like CEFALU’ FILM FESTIVAL 2023, SWIFF 2023(reached in the finals)
In Rwanda, industry is still young, as we are learning to produce our films professionally by telling our origin stories. I have started my journey in 2017, in a film school here in Rwanda. From that time, I presented myself as a video editor.
I was fascinated about the playing image on the screen as they say “phi-phenomenon” I was motivated to write stories about community in my neighborhood. Although, I was really interested in creating images that are moving on the screen.

I continued to pursuit my journey, mostly working as a video editor with different studios and TV stations in Kigali. As well as I had attended different workshops, where I got the occasion to meet with different experienced models into film industry. My biggest moment was to be selected into RMP serial writing master class, it was in 2018. After one year, I was enthused and relieved to know clearly more about my expectations and set up my goals. It was a right timing to meet with fellows’ Rwandan young filmmakers, as we produced a web series together called “Karani Ngufu” I got experience and confidences in all aspects like mentally and practical skills, especially in editing room. From that moment, I realized that I should start thinking about establishing business out if, like buying equipment and run a production house ” Mountain Design Studio.” The purpose is to maintaining into creative art as well as working with upcoming artists in all aspects. Today, I’m proud that we have managed to produce my first documentary project, “Art and Destiny” as one of the film that is getting recognized mostly in European festivals. Also, to co-produce our first production of shorts films, and other video productions into different aspects.

we’re working with local television through films, as well as graphics and animation as a way of branding made in Rwanda, which is going to promote Rwandan and African contents, by telling our origin stories. I’m glad that we have young and talented minds to work with, it will be a privilege to be part of this journey among the others.
