Cinema brings important aesthetic, narrative and enjoyment elements, but it is also an important vehicle to reach the hearts and minds of everyone, providing stories and themes to the widest possible audience. Movies can also inspire people to participate and act.

International Film Festival
El Ojo cojo
Regulations
1) Purpose - El Ojo cojo International film festival is oriented to short films, full-length films, fiction, documentaries and animation films. Its main goal is to promote intercultural dialogue and integration of socially disadvantaged populations sharing films that usually don’t reach the Spanish commercial film market, fundamentally sensitizing people about the different realities that exist trying not to fall into clichés. Taking that into consideration, the Festival tries to work as a sharing point for meetings and discussions about different kind of projects.

2) Organization - Organized by “Meigas da rúa” NGO which is dedicated to the promotion of intercultural dialogue with a gender approach. The NGO is declared as Public Interest by the Council of Madrid. Also “Meigas da rúa” NGO is a member of the Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity and the Anna Lindh Foundation.
This year Festival will take place on November. It is an independent Festival and it will grant awards from the jury and the community.

3) Sections - The festival will have the following sections:

Official competing full-length films:
Fiction – Minimum length 80 minutes
Documentary – Minimum length 60 minutes

Official competing short-films:
Maximum length 20 minutes.

(Films not meeting the requirements, but standing out for their quality or testimonial value may be selected to be shown out of competition).

CORONAVIRUS - Due to the exceptional situation we are experiencing worldwide, films made in a confinement situation during the COVID19 crisis will have a special place on the Festival.

Monographic sections and cycles that offer films of a high cinematic level and social commitment as well as aesthetic and discursive research, or films concerning a particular reality, may be grouped together by country, theme, movement, authorship or other criteria adopted by the festival management. There won’t have a production deadline.

Films aspiring to having an award should have been completed or released after January 1st of the year before that the current year. At the same time another condition is not having applied for the festival in previous occasions. It is not an essential condition but not having participated in other Festivals will be considered positively.

4) Inscriptions - From July 20th at 10:30 am to July 19th.

Films will only be registered by their directors or with the expressed authorization for our festival signed by them. Registrations by distributors without the expressed authorization to be registered for our Festival by the director will not be accepted.
Invitations are only for filmmakers. No bulk mail by distributors will be accepted, unless they pay the registration for each film. In this case the maximum enrollment amount is five films.
For the registration to be successful you will need:

A) To upload the film to any of the platforms listed at the end of Inscriptions on our official website.

B) To pay the registration fee via platforms within regular period:
Full-length films: €20
Short-films: €15

Once submitted, the form will be taken as an affidavit. This form shall conclude that you know and accept this Regulation.

Films that participate in other festivals may also be directly registered.

Once the preselection is notified you must make sure that in the platform we have:

◦        Code number to embed the trailer on the website
◦        Poster
◦        A photograph of the film
◦        A director’s photograph
◦        A copy of the full-length film or short-film (.mov format) including Spanish subtitles, without encrypted code impeding them from being copied and WITHOUT WATERMARK (which constitutes a reason for exclusion).

PLEASE DO NOT send by e-mail photos or other documents that we have not expressly requested to be sent by this means.

5) Language – It is desirable that films are presented in Spanish or including Spanish subtitles. If the version is not in Spanish or does not include Spanish subtitles, at the time of selection you must upload English subtitles and they must be unfailingly accompanied by a copy of your film without subtitles (not meeting this requirement will constitute a reason for exclusion).

6) Exhibitions - Once registered and selected, the film cannot be withdrawn from the program under no circumstances.
Exhibitions within the framework of the Festival will take place in Madrid in November in different halls and alternative spaces as well as on the street. There will also be online shows and then exhibitions in different cultural spaces around Spain. If there are any unexpected circumstances (such as wars, pandemics, climate disasters, etc.) dates and screenings may be changed.

7) Exhibitions - It is important for directors to make use of the different spaces on the festival in order to promote its work. Since we promote dialogue, every director that goes to our festivals to show a film will have the commitment to go to at least 3 other exhibitions from other directors inside our festival and a meeting if there is any.

8) Selected films - They will have the opportunity to access to exhibition and distribution in other festivals, be purchased for its display in national television or participate in our online platform obtaining important benefits.

9) Shipping of the copies - Shipment of the copies must be paid by the shipper.
DVD copies or any material sent will not be returned.
If a copy of the film is shipped on material support, the shipper must inform by e-mail to elojocojo@gmail.com, about the number of air waybill, company, flight number and shipment date. Shipping costs must be paid by the person who registered the film.

It should be indicated that the copy has no commercial value and declare a maximum value of US$ 15 for custom purposes.

If the cost of any shipment is debited to the Festival, it will be returned to its destination.
The festival does not cover the costs of returning the 35mm copies nor does it return any other type of copy or material.

10) Information material and advertising – Just by being part of the Festival, every director agrees to share the news and updates of the Festival in their social networks. From the time of pre-selection to the awards ceremony.

Although it is not mandatory (unless is requested by email) the director may send after selection, the advertising printed material of each film consisting of: press kit, posters and photographs of the authors as well as the embed code of its trailer that should be on Youtube or Vimeo. Thus, we provide as much information as possible to the international and local press to awaken the interest of general public for each film.

11) Invitations - The Festival will arrange the means to facilitate the stay and tickets for filmmakers who aspire to Jury prizes. These filmmakers, if requested in the period in which they are summoned, will have the opportunity to present their films and make a call to the press, according to the possibilities that provide the supports and sponsors each year.

12) Broadcasting - El Ojo Cojo aims to give the best possible publicity and outreach to the films of the Festival.
At the same time, El Ojo Cojo recommends films for local distribution in theaters.

El Ojo Cojo also carries a traveling exhibition with selections of the Festival and different cultural spaces. It will also seek to facilitate the participation of films in different friend festivals promoting the film.

13) Seminars - One of the Festival's purposes are to facilitate discussion and exchange of cinematic experiences in an environment of cultural integration, for which the Festival will organize all kind of workshops.

14) Preselection - It will be in charge of professionals selected and endorsed by the Festival.

15) Awards - Pending confirmation of funding sources, the festival jury will grant:

If the jury finds it suitable, there may be special Winks consisting of certificates of recognition to the special qualities of films deemed noteworthy.

The diploma and money prize, if any, shall be shipped only to the director.

The films that received an award is obliged to mention it in all advertising, posters and press materials, adding the logo of the Festival and respecting the exact wording of the jury's decision, condictio sine qua non to be an award receiver.

16) General Dispositions – These regulations have no exceptions. If there are such cases for which no provision is made, the decision will be up to the Festival management.
