Dr. Marlow Hernandez is a physician-executive who combines clinical experience with an entrepreneurial approach to healthcare. Over more than 15 years in value-based care, he has developed population health programs that have delivered measurable, life-saving outcomes for hundreds of thousands of patients across the United States.
His professional philosophy is grounded in a clear principle: “We do not turn patients away.” Guided by this belief, he has focused on building organizations that integrate primary care with advanced analytics and specialty services to deliver proactive, personalized medicine. Hernandez is known for using data as a practical clinical tool rather than a theoretical resource, consistently working to expand access for disadvantaged populations and improve long-term health outcomes.
Born in Cienfuegos, Cuba, and raised in the Miami area, He immigrated to the United States in 1993. Early in life, he witnessed the challenges of unequal access to care, including the fragmented treatment his grandmother, Abuela Eva, received while managing complicated diabetes. At five years old, he promised her, “Don’t worry, Abuela. I will become a physician, and I will heal you.” That promise shaped his life’s direction.
Reflecting on those experiences, he has said, “I couldn't heal the system one patient at a time. I had to build a system that transformed healthcare for entire populations.” He earned a Bachelor’s in Neuroscience from the University of Miami and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his training at Cleveland Clinic Florida and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
His tri-disciplinary background (DO, MPH, MBA) led to the founding of Cano Health, which he expanded from a single clinic into a $3 billion revenue clinical platform serving 400,000 members. Under his leadership, it became the fastest-growing primary care network in the U.S. for two consecutive years, according to Inc. magazine. It achieved a 60% sustained reduction in patient mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
These clinical results were supported by peer-reviewed research published in the American Journal of Managed Care (AJMC). The organization also maintained a Five-Star quality rating for 5 consecutive years, as published by major health organizations, including Humana and United Healthcare. During his tenure with the inaugural CMS direct contracting entity (now ACO REACH), his teams grew the business from $0 to nearly $1.0 billion in revenue within two years.
In 2023, Dr. Marlow chose to leave the company after concluding that he could no longer serve patients effectively within that corporate structure. The broader disruptions in the healthcare sector in 2024, affecting organizations such as CareMax, Clinical Care, and Miami Beach Medical, reflected the systemic challenges he had sought to address. After his departure, Cano Health reorganized as a private entity in June 2024 and continues to operate as a primary care provider in Florida.
Following this transition, he turned his focus to integrating clinical medicine with advanced technology. He co-founded Soran Health and serves as its Chief Executive Officer. Operating under the motto “El cuidado que su familia merece” (The care your family deserves), the organization serves seniors in Nevada, including locations on Tropicana Ave in Las Vegas and in North Las Vegas.
At Soran Health, Marlow Hernandez established the 48-Hour Guarantee, ensuring patients are seen within 48 hours. A central initiative is Alma AI, a proprietary platform designed to predict a patient’s risk of 30-day hospitalization with over 90% accuracy in empirical testing. Recognizing that more than 60% of major healthcare events occur between scheduled visits, the platform supports continuous monitoring and early intervention to prevent crises.
In addition to his executive responsibilities, he continues to practice as a vascular specialist. He holds active and unrestricted medical licenses in Florida and Nevada. He often asks patients, “What is the one thing you want to do more of in the next six months that your health currently prevents?” He considers his senior patients “Heroes” and has a longstanding record of providing charitable care to uninsured individuals, at times personally absorbing the cost to ensure access. His service has also included hurricane relief efforts and direct patient care during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Outside of clinical work, Dr. Marlow Hernandez has supported faith-based and philanthropic initiatives for more than 20 years, contributing to local churches, the Christian Children’s Fund, and charities focused on school feeding programs. He has publicly spoken against oppressive regimes, including in Cuba, and has supported organizations.
