With extensive training in dentistry and forensic education, Canadian practitioner Dr. James Frizzell provides modern dental care while raising awareness about abuse and trafficking.
Based in Canada, Dr. James Frizzell has owned and operated Frizzell Dental, a family cosmetic and dental practice, for more than 20 years. Through this practice, he serves the communities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Welland, St. Catharines, and Niagara-on-the-Lake. In addition to his clinical work, he is involved in education and advocacy focused on addressing abuse and human trafficking.
He attended the University of Toronto, where he earned a BSc in Organic/Inorganic Chemistry and later completed a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. While studying there, he received an NSERC scholarship in the Department of Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Robert Morris. The research conducted by him and his colleagues was published in the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry.
In 1997, Dr. James studied at FaithWay Baptist College in Ajax, Ontario, and completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. In 2019, he earned a degree in Dental Forensics from McGill University. Over the years, he has also completed numerous additional courses covering areas such as mental health and suicide risk assessment, digital crime scene photography, civil litigation workshops, strangulation prevention, and other related topics.
At Frizzell Dental, he works with a team that provides a range of services, including dental hygiene, restorative dentistry, cosmetic teeth whitening, emergency dental care, and preventive dentistry. The family practice focuses on patient care in a comfortable environment while using modern dental procedures and technology. Patients of all ages, including both adults and children, receive treatment there.
Preventive services offered at the practice include periodontal therapy, sealants, tooth extraction, routine periodontal care, fluoride applications, and other treatments. Cosmetic options include the Zoom in-office whitening system, bonding, tooth-colored fillings, porcelain crowns, inlays and onlays, and dental implants.
Many patients have shared positive feedback about their experiences with the practice. One patient wrote, “Hands down the best dentist I've been to…I broke my front tooth, got me in immediately, took care of it very fast, great pricing all around, great place. Staff is super kind, highly recommended if there was an option for more than 5 stars, most definitely would be higher.”
Another patient shared, “I have been going to Dr. Frizzell for years, he takes care of my whole family… the only dentist I know that actually cares about you! Wouldn’t go anywhere else ever! He keeps us all smiling…”
He also served for eight years as a Military Dental Officer with the Canadian Forces Dental Corps. During this time, he helped ensure that soldiers were dentally fit during the Gulf Wars. The Base Commander at Cold Lake Air Base in Alberta recognized his work and contributions.
Beyond dentistry, he focuses on identifying and preventing child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking, and intimate partner violence. In August 2025, he published the book “Domestic Violence/Human Trafficking. From a Canadian Perspective.”
Frizzell is also a co-founder of Dentists United Against Human Trafficking. This organization works to educate dental professionals about recognizing and responding to signs of trafficking in clinical settings. The organization promotes awareness within the dental community, trains clinicians to notice warning signs in patients who may be victims, and encourages the inclusion of human trafficking education in dental training programs.
Through this work, he emphasizes the role dental teams can play as frontline healthcare providers who may encounter victims during treatment. His efforts aim to raise awareness and support interventions that help protect vulnerable individuals.
In January 2026, Dr. James and a colleague published an article titled “What’s Happening in Ontario: Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting” in the Oral Health Journal. He also serves as a Human Trafficking Consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara.
He frequently shares his knowledge through presentations and podcasts for forensic nurses and healthcare professionals. Topics include “Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting,” “Domestic Violence,” “Human Trafficking Victims: Recognition and Reaction,” “The Forensics of Suicide,” “Identifying Intraoral & Extraoral Signs of Child Abuse,” and “Cannabis Addiction and Consequences.” His experience in bruising and bitemark analysis has also led to his participation as an expert witness in court cases.
He has been a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology for the past 7 years and is also a member of the International Association of Forensic Nurses.
In addition to serving as a consultant for Crime Stoppers Niagara, Dr. James Frizzell volunteers to help raise funds for the organization. Each summer, he also donates to and meets with temporary grape orchard workers from Mexico and Cuba. Another activity he enjoys is singing hymns with residents in nursing homes.
