Located in the midst of the picturesque landscape of the Dolomites, Val Gardena is home to the film festival of highest altitude in Italy.

The Documentary Competition is focussing on documentary films from the Alpine region. Films have to outline or visualize the geographical area of the Alps in at least one of its eight countries. At least 10 percent of the film need to have been shot there.

The Short Film competition is dedicated to local offspring from South Tyrol and neighboring provinces.

Also, the DOLOMITALE Filmfestival ist the first feature length film festival located in the Rhaeto-Romance language area, thus is putting a special effort on this minority language spoken in Italy and Switzerland.

DOLOMITALE Luis Trenker Award (Best Feature Film from the Alps):
- Jury award: 5.000,- Euro

DOLOMITALE Documentary Award (Best Documentary Feature Film from the Alps):
- Jury award: 3.000,- Euro

DOLOMITALE Short Film Award (Best short film from South Tyrol or in Rhaeto-Romance language):
- Audience award: 1.000,- Euro

Release date shouldn't be older than 2019.

The Dolomitale Filmfestival regards a short film as 30 minutes or under and a feature film as anything over 50 minutes.

Films that have been broadcasted on TV previously or are available to purchase are not eligible. This includes DVD, Blu-ray, VHS or VOD formats.

To be eligible to apply, attendees must provide all the rights to economic and visual use of their own work. They also have to declare that the work is original and that does not infringe or violate the rights of any third part. By entering the contest, the entrants grant the right to use their work and material for the purpose of press, media or promotion.

Rough cuts are also accepted, as long as the film is finalized by 1st of September 2021.

Films selected for the festival are shown in the original language. Subtitles are desired either in English, German or Italian.

The participants are selected by the festival directorate team. The DOLOMITALE Documentary Award will be awarded by an expert panel. The DOLOMITALE Short Film Award will be chosen by the attending audience.
