Detroit Filmmakers Awards is a cinematic organization that was founded to celebrate the achievement of Detroit independent filmmakers and recognize the talent that Detroit contributes to film nationwide. The organization also offers resources, support, and recognition to film and filmmakers. DFA will celebrate film all year round. Our goal is to recognize up and coming Filmmakers that creates diverse stories and employs diverse working hands.

The Prestigious DFA Award.

To be considered: 

•Feature  Film must be 60+ mins in length

•Short film must be under 20 mins

•Web series must be 4+ episodes to be considered. 

Music Video submission must be shot by a director from Detroit and artist from Detroit.

•Submission must be made by production company (producer) and or director of project.

. Only 1 film per production company

•Film must be completed during May 1st, 2020 - Oct 1st 2021. 

•Submission deadline is Dec 1st, 2021 @ 11:59pm
Extended submission is now Jan 1st, 2022 @ 11:59pm

•Submissions must be made via FilmFreeway. www.filmfreeway.com/detroitfilmmakersawards

•Submissions made after the deadline are subjected to a $100 submission fee. The peer review group has the right to approve or deny deadline extension for any submission.

•Budget must be $60,000 or less for film to qualify.

•Must be a resident in the state of Michigan 

Please indicate all categories in which you are submitting your film for consideration. All submissions a will automatically  be considered for Best actor, Best actress and Best film. 

Detroit Filmmakers Award Board will select the nominees and Peer Review Groups will select winners in each category. 

Peer Review Groups are comprised of professionals in their respective art forms from around the country that will privately review and score films.

Nomination announcements will take place April 5, 2022 .  

DFA will list 2 official representatives of the nominated program. 

Only 1 award will be presented to the winning film/program. Additional awards can be requested at the cost to the winning film/program. Maximum of 3 statues will be duplicated with no additional or information or changes to existing information. These statues will only be duplicated for production categories.
