Dery Prananda is a filmmaker and lecturer based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His filmmaking practice draws from intimate everyday encounters and the cultural landscape of Java. He holds a Master of Arts in Film from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Surakarta. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Artistic Research, specializing in Film, at the same institution.
Dery has directed a range of independent films—creative documentaries, short fiction, and hybrid works—that have screened internationally, including at the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival, ReelOzInd Australia–Indonesia Festival, Tehran International Short Film Festival, LOBO FEST Brazil, and Moscow Short Shot Film Festival.
He teaches film production at several institutions in Yogyakarta and Jakarta, and was awarded the John Darling Fellowship at Monash University, Melbourne. His cinematic influences include Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Garin Nugroho.
