chameckilerner is a 27 years collaboration between Rosane Chamecki and Andrea Lerner, an interdisciplinary duo working in the intersection of dance and time-based media. Their body of works includes performances, video, and installation pieces.
Chamecki and Lerner are both natives of Curitiba, Brazil, where they received a B.A. in Dance from Parana's Pontific Catholic in 1988. Together they moved to New York City in 1989.
chameckilerner is the recipient of various fellowships and grants for their interdisciplinary work, including the Guggenheim Fellowship, The Foundation for Contemporary Arts, NYFA Fellowship, NYSCA, NEFA, Jerome Foundation, Rockefeller MAP Fund, SIEMENS, ALTRIA, Greenwall Foundation, among others.
chameckilerner work has been presented in the US by The Kitchen, DTW, The Joyce Theater, Performance Space 122, Central Park SummerStage, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Mass MoCA, Diverseworks, Jacob's Pillow, American Dance Festival, among others. In addition, their work toured extensively in both South America and Europe.
In 2007, chameckilerner premiered EXIT at The Kitchen in NY. The piece was an artistic suicide of the duo known as chameckilerner. In EXIT, they investigate the possibility of extinction and reinvention; EXIT marked the beginning or chameckilerner's interest in video and installation.
This new body of work was featured in group shows and was also part of an extended list of Film and Dance Film festivals in the US, Canada, Brazil, and Europe. Their first short video, Flying Lesson, won Best Experimental Film Award at the Brooklyn International Film Festival(2008), the Jury Award at the 36th Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center, was shown in more than twenty international film festivals, and broadcasted on Channel 13's REEL NEW YORK. Samba #2 won the Honorable Prize at the Inshadow Festival, Portugal, and at the San Francisco Dance Film festival, the US, in 2014.
chameckilerner was a resident at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center in 2009, at EMPAC (Curtis R. Priem ExperimentalMedia and Performing Arts Center at Rensselaer), Troy, in 2014-15, at the YADDO Foundation in 2018, and most recently, a 2019 Artists in Residence at the ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG Foundation and Gibney DIP Residency Artist. In the Summer of 2021, chameckilerner will travel to Italy to be part of The Bogliasco Residency.
