The mission of Bruce Wood Dance is to present high–caliber, contemporary choreography that harnesses the power of dance to entertain, enrich, and heal.
Bruce Wood Dance, hailed as Dallas’ “shining star” by Arts and Culture Texas, is an award-–winning contemporary dance company founded in 2010 by nationally acclaimed Texas artistic director and choreographer Bruce Wood (1960–2014). Bruce Wood Dance is built on Wood’s vision and prolific artistry. Artistic director Joy Bollinger successfully carries on Wood’s legacy and leads an outstanding company of 12 exceptional dancers.
Described as “emotionally charged and highly kinetic” by ArtandSeek.org, Bruce Wood Dance serves the public through high–caliber theatrical productions, outdoor appearances, classes, digital content, and dance films. The acclaimed repertoire features original works from Wood’s repertoire and commissions known for their social relevance, poignant imagery, and sinuous partnering. Since 2014, Bruce Wood Dance has commissioned more than 20 new works from internationally renowned choreographers, including 2017 Princess Grace Award Winner and 2019 Jacob’s Pillow Fellow Bryan Arias, 2017 Bessie–nominated Katarzyna Skarpetowska, sought–after artists Yin Yue, Garrett Smith, Adam W. McKinney, Omar Román De Jesús, and resident artists Bollinger and Kimi Nikaidoh.

Bruce Wood Dance has been recognized as Best Dance Company by D Magazine in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2021 and Best of Dallas Voice 2014–2018 and 2020. Bruce Wood Dance has performed across Texas, at the Joyce Theater on the 2020 American Dance Platform in New York, at Jacob’s Pillow’s Inside/Out Performance Series, and other festivals in New York, Ohio, and Washington D.C. Bruce Wood Dance has been on the Texas Commission on the Arts Touring Roster since 2018.
