In association with Manchester Film Festival, this new annual fund provides a £5,000 production budget for a live action short film, alongside hands-on Executive Producer support from experienced industry professionals who have had major success in the short film world, including a BAFTA and Oscar nomination.

Screenplays must be a maximum of 10 pages and be produced within the £5,000 budget awarded.

Nominees will pitch live at Manchester Film Festival on 27th March 2026.

The fund aims to support filmmakers at a key point of progression: from early practice towards sustained industry engagement. Applications are welcomed from aspiring filmmakers, those who already have shorts under their belts, recent graduates and creatives from adjacent disciplines.

More than a funding award, it is also an artist development initiative – with support that will help filmmakers develop their community and professional networks, creating the conditions for a meaningful breakthrough into the industry.

THE WINNER will receive:
- £5,000 cash prize for the production budget of their short film
- Executive Producer mentorship throughout the filmmaking process from development through to festival strategy and distribution.

NOMINEES will receive:
- Full Delegate Pass to the Manchester Film Festival from 19th-29th March 2026.
- Further Executive Producer consultation to help develop and fund their short film.

  • I didn't go to the pitch session / main event but I can speak to the fund which was a swift decision-making process which was then later followed up with well-considered feedback on the script (as we were shortlisted) which we're taking into the next draft.

I look forward to seeing how the fund and event grows and would recommend it to other filmmakers.

The team created a professional and welcoming environment, and it was valuable to present work in front of both industry and audience. Highly recommended for emerging filmmakers.
