RULES AND REGULATIONS
I. ORGANIZATION, PLACE AND DATES
ANIMA2024 – XIV Córdoba International Animation Festival - Latin American Animation Schools Meeting is jointly organized by the Faculty of Arts of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) through its Centro Experimental de Animación; the Animation Chair of the Universidad Nacional de Villa María; and the UNC’s Secretaría de Extensión Universitaria. The festival receives support from the Centro de Producción e Investigación en Artes, UNC.
The festival will be held in Córdoba, Argentina, from October 17-18, 2024; both in on-site and online versions.
II. OBJECTIVES
The Festival’s main objectives are:
● To favour the recognition of the art of animation in its many dimensions: technical, stylistic, as a social product, as a cultural asset, etc.
● To generate a meeting point for reflection, encounter and exchange among the different areas that, from their particular activities, contribute to this cultural industry.
● To promote regional technological development.
● To stimulate the production, distribution and exhibition of animations made in academic instances.
● To promote specific training instances in the field of animation.
III. ABOUT THE ENTRIES
The Festival is open to animation productions made in an academic environment of every technique, genre, topic, format and screening media (film, video, television, Internet, smartphones). Special interest is granted to innovative works. Participation is open for productions from all over the world, with emphasis in those from Latin America. There is no limit to the number of entries that a participant can send.
There is no entry fee.
Only animations completed after January 1st 2019 will be accepted, and which have not been entered in former editions of the festival. The festival will not pay screening fees in any case.
Films should register under one of the following categories:
Graduation Short films
Degree’s graduation animation short films - Running time up to 20 minutes
Student Short films
Animation short films made by students in course - Running time up to 20 minutes
IV. JURIES AND DISTINCTIONS
The organizers will name Juries which will award the following official Prizes or Distinctions:
- Grand Jury Award
- Best International Graduation Animation Prize
- Best Latin American Graduation Animation Prize
- Best Argentine Graduation Animation Prize
- Best International Student Animation Prize
- Best Latin American Student Animation Prize
- Best Argentine Student Animation Prize
- Audience Prize to Short Film
If deemed appropriate, the Juries may also award Special Jury Mentions, or deem vacant any award. All decisions of the Juries are final.
Cachoíto Award
The Cachoito Award is given away by ANIMA to Argentine animation personalities or collectives, to honor either its lifetime achievements in animation or the undertaking of transformative actions to the Argentine animation community. It receives its name in honor of the late Miguel ‘Cachoíto’ de Lorenzi, who was a groundbreaking designer, animator and educator from Córdoba, Argentina.
CINE.AR Honorable Mention
The CINE.AR Honorable Mention of the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) awards Argentine short films that participate in national festival competitions in recognition of artistic innovation, audiovisual creativity, production quality, content and the message that the work brings to the public. Its objective is the exhibition of the winning short films through the varied screens offered by the INCAA to guarantee free access to all citizens of the country to audiovisual cultural goods produced in our territory, expand and diversify the audiences of national short films and make visible the new generations that make them, giving them a prominent place in our programming that allows us to enjoy this format that is in continuous growth.
Independent Awards
The Independent Awards are awarded by audiovisual entities other than the ANIMA. The granting of these will be defined in each case by the ANIMA organization.
V. ENTRY PROCEDURES
Entries should be registered through FilmFreeway’s Platform at https://filmfreeway.com/animafestival
The Festival’s official languages are Spanish and English. If the film has dialogue in another language, the entrant must submit for selection a subtitled copy in either Spanish or English.
PLEASE NOTE> For selection purposes, all films should be accessible online and streaming (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. ) DO NOT SEND A DVD. DO NOT SEND A FILE.
VI. SELECTION AND EXHIBITION
The Organizers do not compromise to screen the total number of entries. Curatorship of the programs and their qualification as Competitive or Non Competitive will be of competence of the Artistic Director, and decisions on this respect will be final. If the entrant does not want the film to be considered for Non Competitive programs, it should indicate so in the space provided in the Entry Form.
Those whose entries have been selected for exhibition – either for Competitive or Non-Competitive categories – will receive a digital Certificate of Participation in the Festival, the Festival’s Laurels and Catalogue.
The outcome of the selection process will be informed on August 30th, 2024.
If your film is selected, we will contact you and ask you for a high definition file for projection, subtitles in Spanish and English in .srt format, photographs and other promotional materials. In addition, you will be asked to provide proof of your connection to the educational institution at the time the film was made.
Failure to provide any of the requested materials on the requested deadline will automatically disqualify the entry.
We strongly recommend that those files are also sent as an Internet download through Google Drive or WeTransfer. The Festival will not pay, in any case, any fees from the mailing of the entries.
VII. OTHER SCREENINGS
The organizers may exhibit the selected short films after the festival as part of touring exhibition programs. These screenings may be public or private, and be held anywhere in the world by the festival itself or by third parties, but only with free admission and for cultural or educational purposes.
VIII. DEADLINE
The registration will remain open until Sunday, June 30, 2024, for all school work. And then, until Sunday, August 10, 2024, through a Waiver Code, provided to the educational institutions. After that date, no work will be considered eligible.
IX. MENTIONS
The producers and directors of the awarded films undertake to mention the Award and the name “ANIMA 2024, XIV International Animation Festival of Córdoba” in the credits of their film, website and in all related documentation.
X. ABOUT COPYRIGHT ISSUES
The entrants will be responsible for claims of any nature that third parties might perform in respect to production credits, copyright, inclusion rights, performers’ rights, etc.
XI. ACCEPTANCE OF THESE RULES AND REGULATIONS
All participants, just by sending an entry to the Festival, fully accept these Rules and Regulations. Should any problem arise, it will be solved by the Organizers considering the Spanish version of these Rules and Regulations.
