Agência – Portuguese Short Film Agency was created in 1999 by Curtas Metragens CRL, which is the same entity that organizes the Curtas Vila do Conde - International Film Festival, the Solar – Cinematic Art Gallery and the ANIMAR.
The Portuguese Film Institute decided to support the project since the beginning, so that the Agency's mission could be carried out completely and at no cost to Portuguese producers.
Headquartered in Vila do Conde (Portugal), Agência develops a work of promotion and distribution of Portuguese short films around the world. A work grounded on a strong public service component where the dissemination of Portuguese culture is done through an extremely creative and innovative cinematographic format: the short film.
This work, carried out with the intention of representing all the commitment and dedication for the diffusion of Portuguese short films, is based essentially on three vectors of action: promotion, programming and distribution.
All the activity undertaken by Agência has the goal of increasing the circulation of Portuguese short films in Portugal and abroad, of creating new audiences and helping the decentralization of cinematographic exhibition, through the development of an alternative circuit to commercial theatres, not overlooking the financial income for the work’s right holders. A systematized strategic work is established through a vigorous network of exhibitors, distributors, and buyers, enhancing the discovery of our films, giving Portuguese authors a greater visibility, and attracting many thousands of viewers through festivals, exhibitions, DVD editions, and TV broadcasts all over the world.
