Zion Binet Murphy is a passionate writer, director, and cultural worker whose profound love for art—particularly film—has deeply shaped both his life and career. He earned a B.A. in Media and Communications from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Film at Howard University, where he is set to graduate in Spring 2026. Rooted in the rich traditions of Third Cinema, Afro-Surrealism, and the Black Arts Movement, Zion's cinematic practice is poetic and experimental, often weaving elements of magical realism to inspire introspection, cultural critique, and meaningful reflection on the complexities of identity and history. Drawing inspiration from the improvisational styles of jazz and hip-hop, Zion mixes equal parts intuition and intention into his creative process, challenging conventional filmmaking norms in both form and execution. Driven by a deep commitment to the intersection of art and activism, he wields the camera as a powerful tool for driving social change.
