Yerzat was educated in Beijing, China, where he studied TV directing. Afterward, he immigrated to Kazakhstan and began working at the national TV channel, QAZAQSTAN. He spent seven years there as a TV director, working on various projects, including TV documentaries, reality shows, and live broadcasts. Currently, he is a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles, having completed his master's degree at the New York Film Academy.
His previous documentary, Ten Days, focused on a Ukrainian refugee family in the U.S., and it was selected for various film festivals. The film was also shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Awards 2023 and became a finalist in the Fine Cut Film Festival, where it will be broadcast on PBS SoCal for the next two years.
