Winterdances is a multidisciplinary mini-festival connecting live contemporary dance and dance films, sparking dialogue between movement, media, and community. Since 2022, it has grown with local and international partners, reaching school audiences and the wider public.

Each year, the festival presents a curated selection of short dance films in cinema theatres and public venues, alongside live performances . Since 2025, Winterdances has expanded from southeast Finland to Sweden through its partnership with Dansfilmsdagar / Scenkonst Sörmland.

The latest edition reached 800 students in Finland and over 2,000 spectators in Sweden through screenings in schools and public spaces.

In 2026, Winterdances will take place in Loviisa and Porvoo (Finland) and across Sörmland (Sweden), with screenings in cinemas, schools, public spaces, and at local cinema theatres.

Through dance, film, and digital media, Winterdances 2026 invites young people and communities to reflect on nature, society, and identity.

Selected films will be included in the official festival program in both Finland and Sweden.

Screenings will be held at:
- Finland: 4 screenings for schools + 2 screenings for general audiences in cinema theatres in Loviisa (8.9.2.2026) and Porvoo (26.-27.2.2026).
- Sweden: 5 school screenings, 2 public space screenings, and 1 theatre screening at Scenkonst Sörmland (18.-23.5.2026).

All selected films will receive a screening fee of 200 € (via invoice), covering all presentations in Finland and Sweden.

Films will also be promoted via the festival’s social media channels.

For its 2026 edition, Winterdances will feature short dance films exploring the theme of sustainability — weaving together art, technology, and environmental awareness. Sustainability is understood broadly, encompassing social, environmental, human rights, economic, and political challenges that shape our world today.

  • I was thrilled to have "Pooling" invited to tour with Winterdances. I wasn't able to attend any screenings, but from their social media posts, it looked like a top-notch exhibition. Grateful to have my work in such great company!
