My name is William Harvey, and I’m a filmmaker by passion and a physicist by training. More specifically, I’m a PhD candidate at the University of Victoria studying quantum gravity while at the same time developing–now in post-production–my second feature film Chrysalis. I have directed one previous feature film–ECHO–between my undergraduate degree (physics & mathematics) and my master’s program (physics). Although I don’t have much formal training in filmmaking on-paper, I have worked with many others who do have such training in the past–including other filmmakers, graphic designers, composers, actors and photographers. My creative focus is broadly in the realm of fiction, and specifically thus far in psychological horror. Horror in particular lends itself well to micro-budget filmmaking, but I am also working on conceptualizing a similarly thrifty science-fiction story once Chrysalis is completed. My overall creative goal–as I live this double life–is to find ways to tell compelling, feature-length genre stories (e.g. sci-fi/horror) on an extremely limited budget without sacrificing scope and professional-looking production values.
