WeirdFest is a film making competition based in the Okanagan region in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Our goal is to uncover the weirdest films in the Thompson/Okanagan and the world.

The focus of this contest is to locate and promote strangely entertaining filmmakers that may otherwise be ignored by the mainstream. Although things like professional camera techniques and lighting are vitally important in film making, the focus of this competition is the story. Unlike some film competitions, minor technical flaws will take a back seat to a bizarrely unique creative vision.

The line-up was well-curated and I am very thankful that my film was selected. It was disappointing to find out this had to be online instead of an in-person event, but it was solid that they offered a refund for submission fees. Communication overall was on-point and everyone was very polite and respectful.

  • Festival organizers did a great job curating a diverse slate of films with a wide range of budgets and production values, all wonderfully weird. I was a little disappointed when they announced the live venue had been lost and the event would be online only, but Festival Director Michal Fullerton did right by offering a refund of the submission fee to anyone who wished to withdraw. In the end, moving online was more fun for me because I got to see all of the films. I'm excited to see what the future holds for Weirdfest and I’m proud to have my movie, “The Xxtra Deadd” win Weirdest International Film in the festival's first year!

  • I had the pleasure of having my short film Exploding Influencers featured at WeirdFest and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. The festival was unique, and as expected, things got wonderfully weird! The selection of films lived up to the festival’s reputation, providing a perfect platform for creative, unconventional stories. I appreciated how the festival embraced bold and experimental content, giving filmmakers like myself a space to showcase our work.

Exploding Influencers felt right at home among the lineup, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. The festival not only highlights the strange and surreal but celebrates indie creators with a passion for the weird and wonderful. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I look forward to seeing more of what this festival has to offer in the future.
