The kaval is a Bulgarian folk wind instrument with an aerophone, monophonic part. Playing is extremely difficult and requires a lot of time and persistence to perfect musicianship. There are missing tones in the fretboard. In the album "Awakening" modern techniques and new models of sound extraction are demonstrated. Two or three sounds are played simultaneously, polyphonic sounds, mixing of several registers in one or two octaves. These are new technical concepts that have been discovered after a long and sustained creative and research process. All sounds, effects and a large array of percussion are performed real and have no computer intervention for editing. These innovations have been implemented in practice and fit very well into the musical picture of the composer and performer Vladimir Velichkov. In the doctoral dissertation "The Art of the Kavala-Tradition and Contemporary" all these techniques are described as new to the playing of the kavala.
