I am a film director who creates documentaries from a VJ's perspective, fusing imagery and music to portray social themes in groundbreaking styles.
My directorial debut at an international film festival, "Let's go! Love Ishinomaki 'United smiles across the world'," follows Tokyo-based Ishinomaki Tourism Ambassador Miyuki Shigeta and university students working to bring about a "smile recovery" following the Great East Japan Earthquake. With full cooperation from Ishinomaki City Hall, the film captures their activities as symbols of smile recovery at the annual River Opening Festival. I am deeply honored that this film has resonated globally, winning 20 awards at international film festivals, including 5 wins at the 21st Monaco International Film Festival (Angel Film Awards), highlighted by the prestigious Humanitarian Angel Film Award.
[ LATEST PROJECT ]
I am currently directing an ambitious new feature, pioneering a fresh cinematic genre I call the "Immersive Documusical."
Title: "One SMILE Only - A Piece of Peace"
Official Website: https://onesmileonly.com/
This project is an epic cross-border tale of hope, demonstrating how "a single genuine smile becomes a crucial piece to complete the grand picture of world peace."
I am incredibly thrilled to announce that for this film, I am collaborating with Ricky Kej, a 3-time Grammy Award-winning global maestro, environmentalist, and composer, who is creating new music for our climax scene. I am also teaming up with our Executive Producer, Sumathy Ram, an internationally acclaimed storyteller and producer, to guide its global outreach.
Through my films and my role as the Founder of the Japan International Film Festival (launching at Tokyo International Airport in March 2027), my ultimate mission is to prove the philosophy that "The noblest award is a smile without battle," transmitting a powerful message of peace, resilience, and smiles from Japan to the rest of the world.
