Welcome to the 16th Annual Utah International Film Festival, Utah’s premier film festival celebrating international independent cinema.

We like to have fun with words, but the Utah International Film Festival (UIFF) is serious about one thing—celebrating cinema that makes an impact. Our mission has always been to Inspire, Create, and Innovate, but most of all, to connect filmmakers from around the world in one unforgettable experience.

From the moment your film is selected, you’re part of a community that genuinely cares. Filmmakers, screenwriters, and actors gather here not just to showcase their work, but to share ideas, form partnerships, and grow together.

🎬 “It was such a great experience to screen my film So Much for Solidarity at UIFF! The festival was so well-organized, people were very friendly, and Dora and Warren are such excellent hosts. I had a blast meeting other filmmakers and attending the various panels and networking events.” — Alexandra Christensen

✨ “Premiering my feature film at the Utah International Film Festival was an unforgettable experience. The team worked hard to keep things running smoothly, and Dora personally responded to my questions—which made the process even better. What really stood out was how they brought together such a diverse group of industry professionals. It was inspiring to connect with so many talented people.” — Spencer Fackrell

📜 “I absolutely LOVED attending the Utah International Film Festival. My short script Delphy was there, and it was so wonderful how much they celebrated screenwriters. The table reads, panels, and networking events made it such a special experience. Dora and Warren put so much love, dedication, and passion into the festival—it truly shows!” — Lea Pfandler

Filmmakers who attend UIFF walk away with new friendships, career opportunities, and the kind of recognition that lasts. Whether you’re premiering your first film or your tenth, UIFF is a place where every storyteller feels at home.

At UIFF, the fun doesn’t stop at the theater doors:
🎭 Workshops & Panels
📜 Screenplay Competitions
🍳 Filmmakers’ Breakfast
🎤 PitchTank
🏆 Awards Show & VIP Dinner and so much more.

⭐️ “As a filmmaker, I couldn’t be more grateful for the experience. From selection to screening, the festival team showed incredible enthusiasm and support. The panels, including PitchTank, were well-organized and full of valuable insights. Winning Best Music Score for ARTIFEX made it all the more unforgettable.” — Alan Lucchetti

From humble beginnings in 2010 to now hosting filmmakers from across the globe, UIFF has become one of Utah’s most dynamic and filmmaker-focused festivals. Our alumni have gone on to earn major industry recognition—including Academy Award nominations and a win for I’m Not a Robot – Best Live Action Short Film.

Over the years, the festival has also featured icons like Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Danny Trejo (Machete), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), and Margaret Cho (The L Word).

But the real magic happens in the moments between screenings—the conversations, the laughs, and the friendships formed over the 5 days.

💡 “It was my first time attending a film festival, and the entire event was amazing. I felt so welcomed, met lots of incredibly talented people, and learned valuable skills that will help me move forward in my screenwriting career.” — Cari Stewart

🎞 “Brilliant festival run by a brilliant team. They really care about all the participants and make the whole festival a great experience.” — Michael Winter

Submit one episode per series entry.
See the categories listing for definitions and additional explanations.

Although not currently an Oscar Qualifying Festival, we do follow the same standards in selecting the winner for potential Oscar Qualifying categories which is: Submissions → Festival programming → Official Selections → Nominees → Jury → Oscar-qualifying winner.

FILM SCREENINGS
Films with Local World Premiere status are given priority for theatrical screenings. Films available to the public during or before the Utah International Film Festival may not have a Premiere status yet will be eligible for an award. 'Available to the public' includes any form of public distribution, such as streaming platforms, prior festival screenings, or wide releases.

SCREENING FEES
We DO NOT pay screening fees on submitted projects. By submitting, you waive any right to screening fees during the festival. Please ensure you are aware of this policy before submitting your project.

AWARD ANNOUNCEMENTS & PROMOTION
All screened films are eligible for nomination at the Utah International Film Awards ceremony. All award show information will be sent to the project submitter. It is the submitter's responsibility to notify their cast and crew of any film nominations. Nominations in each sub category will be announced at the Awards Ceremony.

The laureate will include a graphic suitable for social media or promotional use. Spotlights: On occasion we will promote filmmakers, actors and crew members on our social media regardless if they are included in the film festival programming. This is with the intent to share more good in the world and promote the excellent work you are doing. However, we understand that some people find this to be odd behavior by a film festival. And we agree. It is. But we do it because we feel doing good is better than doing nothing. If you have been spotlighted and wish to have the spotlight removed, please feel free to email us and we will take down any positive post we made about you. Cheers.

  • Thank you so much for screening Cell Buddies at your festival and even nominating it for an award! We are honored to be part of your program. It’s been an incredible year for this student film, traveling to over 40 countries. We’ve seen that audiences worldwide really connect with the story, and we hope your audience enjoyed the screening as much as we enjoyed being part of your event. Thanks for supporting independent stop motion animation.

Lots of great, friendly people working this festival. I had a good time doing a table read with the crew of actors they provided.

BUT the festival used ai to generate a poster for my script without my consultation or permission. The poster misspelled the title of my script, and looked terrible. They fixed the issue after I contacted them, which I appreciated. But them promoting my work in this way shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

They also put a big emphasis during the awards on this idea that “ai can generate a poster in seconds.” These incidences give off the feeling that they don’t really value the work artists do.

Which makes it hard to feel great about the festival overall!

I had an absolutely wonderful time attending the Utah Film Festival and really took advantage of the table reading for my short screenplay. This is a festival run by people who truly love film and this community and especially in supporting emerging filmmakers, and is staffed by volunteers who really care. It’s not a Hollywood vibe—which is a good thing.

  • Though unable to attend in person (so bummed), we were thrilled to screen BY MY SIDE at this awesome festival. I was so impressed with the team for the thoughtfulness offered to filmmakers, great attention to detail and organization. And, we are so honored for BY MY SIDE to be a nominee for Best Documentary Short. We are filled with gratitude. Kudos to you all.
