Uncle Cocuyo - Chronicles of the Border

In the wake of a 50-billion-dollar tech fraud, an intellectual journalist must navigate a lethal family "Regime" and a magnetic, battle-hardened woman to uncover the truth behind his uncle’s disappearance—only to realize that his own blood might be the most dangerous thing in the room.
Tommy Romero is a "decent man" living in the shadow of a dark family legacy. When he discovers that his uncle Teo—the legendary and "missing" billionaire known as Cocuyo—might still be alive, Tommy embarks on a journey that takes him from the violent borderlands of Mexico to a high-tech subterranean fortress on a private Polynesian island.
Joined by Luci, a woman scarred by the Romeros' past, Tommy discovers a staggering truth: Cocuyo has built a $50-billion shadow empire fueled by rare minerals and psychological blackmail. As Tommy is groomed to be the "clean" face of this blood-soaked regime, he realizes that his uncle’s disappearance was a tactical retreat to protect a vault of stolen history.
In a climactic explosion of betrayal, the empire devours itself. While Tommy and Luci manage to escape the island’s destruction, the "Romero infection" is not so easily purged. As they attempt to heal through therapy and distance, a new queen rises from the ashes. Tommy’s own sister, Nancy, takes up the mantle of the sociopath, proving that while kings may die, the regime is eternal.

Writer Statement

I'd like to introduce a screenplay based on a story I have been writing for the last twenty years. Uncle Cocuyo started in 2005 when I composed most of the music for my band Taizen, Cocuyo album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELg2G03N_nY&list=OLAK5uy_klYZ7NZiZDmbFPOij8TTA51A_Bm5zt7Xg&index=2.
The entire soundtrack is based on this story and its characters. I look forward to the possibility of discussing this 20-year labor of love with your team. Thanks, Javi
