The University of Minnesota wants college and high school students from the Midwest to showcase their talents at the second annual UMN Film Festival! With Q&As, panelists, and an opportunity to meet filmmakers with a shared passion, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

TBA

This festival is open to filmmakers in a high school or college within the Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Ohio).

Films must be of a narrative structure of any genre - feel free to be funny, dramatic, or avant garde! We won’t be accepting any documentaries or vlogs.

Films must be 1-40 minutes in length, and must not include excessive gore or sexually explicit content.

There will be two rounds of preliminary judging, and films chosen to move on in competition will be decided by UMN Student Events & Activities Staff. The final judging round will take place during the event, in which we will have professionals in the industry and film professors decide placements.

Videos will be submitted through FilmFreeway - any video format is fine. If you provide a vimeo link, you must share the password in your submission.

If chosen, your team will receive a slotted time for your showing, after which you will have a short Q&A with the audience. This can be done virtually, but we’d prefer to see you on the big day!

Had a bit of trouble find the theater (as I'm not a U of M student) but otherwise was a great time watching student films with Goldy.
