Tushar Kanti Bandyopadhyay is a producer, poet, writer, and director who served as a jury member for the 71st National Film Awards (Feature Films), 2023.
He was closely associated with leading experimental theatre groups in Kolkata for over 25 years, contributing extensively as a writer, actor, and director. Since 2004, he has been actively engaged in the Mumbai film industry. Over the course of his career, he has worked with eminent filmmakers such as Shyam Benegal in Netaji: The Forgotten Hero, sharing screen space with Sachin Khedekar; Ketan Mehta in the television series Time Bomb, alongside K. K. Menon; and Rajkumar Santoshi, appearing with Amitabh Bachchan in Family.
Tushar has been a dedicated member of the Mumbai Screenwriters Association for more than 25 years, reflecting his enduring commitment to the craft of storytelling.
He has authored twelve books to date, spanning poetry, fiction, and screenwriting. His debut feature film, Mysterious Times, received critical acclaim and was screened at several international platforms. This was followed by Tears in the Darkness, which earned multiple nominations at national and international film festivals and was honoured with the Best Visionary Film Award at the Toronto NABC Film Festival, 2025.
His latest film, Bimoksh (Emancipation), is currently on its journey through screenings in Kolkata and at international venues, continuing his exploration of socially relevant and philosophically profound cinema.
