TRANÅS AT THE FRINGE Festival will take place in Tranås (Sweden) from the 1st to the 8th of July 2023 and online.
The film screening is focused on experimental films and videopoems from all over the world and we are happy to open the new call for films!
Submit your film in one of these two sections:
MAGMA - OPEN CALL FOR EXPERIMENTAL SHORT FILMS
By definition, magma is a burning matter, blend of liquid and gaseous substances in a continuous state of agitation under the surface of the Earth. We are looking for magmatic forms of audiovisuals, unconventional moving images that burn on the screen, breaking with common rules of aesthetics and narrative. The festival is open to national and international filmmakers. Any film with no limitation of duration or genre is welcome to apply.
GEMS - OPEN CALL FOR VIDEOPOEMS
A collection of precious stones. We are looking for videopoems, those films that stand on the border between audiovisual languages and words - written or performed. The festival is open to national and international filmmakers. Any film with no limitation of theme or duration is welcome to apply.
And for all the filmmakers submitting to the festival there will be two more opportunities:
1. Your successful entry to the magma section may be chosen to be involved in another inter-disciplinary creative project that runs alongside the festival. A group of poets will take a selection of experimental films and make attempts to translate the content of a short film from one medium to another. In a similar way to which poets may make a literary translation from one language to another; this is an experiment in translating a piece of art made from light into a piece of art made from sound.
2. There is also an international filmmakers’ residency that takes place during the festival in Tranås. Filmmakers who submit have the opportunity to apply to be a participant in this residency and share in an intensive creative experience with a small group of fellow filmmakers from around the world. The residency is curated by Swedish film-maker Erica Elfström who is based in France and allows for a deeper engagement with the festival programme.
(As this is a free-entrance festival, we ask you to pay a small fee for the submission of your film, in order to support the festival and make it possible to happen)
