The Festival des cinémas indiens de Toulouse/Toulouse Indian Film Festival is a film festival held annually in Toulouse, France since 2013. As the name indicates, the Festival is dedicated to introducing the French public to cinema from India/Sri Lanka/Bangladesh/Pakistan/Nepal/Bhutan/Maldives. It is the only true film festival dedicated to the films of the Indian subcontinent in France. It was born from a will not only to publicize the Indian cinema to the French public but also to promote the city of Toulouse, its metropolitan area and the Occitanie region in India. One of the major strengths is the work of cultural mediation towards the public.
We systematically dedicate a time before the screening to introduce the movie and each time it is possible, we hold a discussion with the public after the screening. This is very appreciated, especially in the case of this cinematography which is little known, and even suffering from prejudice. Working on French subtitled copies is one of our priorities.
In a cinephilic city like Toulouse, which is rich with theatres and numerous festivals, it is important for the such prolific Indian sub-continental cinema to have a place and that we can make it available to the public, in a musical, cultural, educative and living together mediation approach.
