Tom Gilroy has written and directed three award winning films--the short TOUCH BASE (IFC/BRAVO), the critically-acclaimed feature SPRING FORWARD (IFC/MGM) starring Liev Schreiber, Ned Beatty, and Campbell Scott, and THE COLD LANDS (Cinereach), which recently had it's world premiere at The Berlinale, its US premiere at Sarasota and NYC premiere at BAM. Lead actor Silas Yelich received a Special Jury Prize from the Nashville Film Festival. Tom is also the director of the shorts IT HAPPENED TODAY (commissioned by REM) and MR SYCAMORE. With his theatre company Machine Full, Gilroy has mounted over a dozen critically acclaimed productions of his own plays as well as the multi-media production of HAMLET, starring Jared Harris, with his father Richard Harris playing The Ghost.
Tom is currently in pre-production as a writer/director on his new project OUR LADY OF THE SNOW with Jared Harris, Grace Zabriskie and Ian Hart, and just completed STAR OF THE SEA, a screenplay commissioned by Nick Sandow (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK).
Tom is a recent recipient of the prestigious McGhee Chair Of Filmmaking at Davidson College where as an artist-at-large he taught filmmaking and screenwriting. A 2014 recipient of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation Screenwriting Grant from the San Francisco Film Society, Tom is also a three-time fellow to The MacDowell Colony, a two-time fellow to The Sundance Screenwriting and Directing Lab, and a mentor at both The Hamptons Screenwriting Lab and the Sundance Creative Producer's Lab. A frequent film professor at Columbia University, Tom has also published 3 books of haiku, and his political columns appear frequently in The Huffington Post.
