Under the High Patronage of the Minister of Culture and the Arts, Dr Malika Bendouda, and under the auspices of the Algerian Ministry of Culture and the Arts, the Timimoun International Short Film Festival announces the opening of submissions for its Official International Competition for its second edition.
Following a successful first edition, marked by a strong African anchoring and a distinctive artistic identity, the festival now enters a new phase, more ambitious and resolutely international in scope, with the aim of establishing itself as a leading cinematic platform emerging from the heart of the Algerian Sahara.
Timimoun, with the singularity of its landscapes and the richness of its cultural heritage, becomes a meeting point for filmmakers from around the world, a space for dialogue, creation, and exchange, where perspectives intersect and cinematic forms are reimagined.
In this spirit of openness, the festival expands its Official Competition to international films, fiction, documentary, and animation, while remaining committed to supporting African cinema and emerging voices in contemporary filmmaking.
Short films, with their narrative intensity and aesthetic freedom, remain a vital space for experimentation and innovation. The festival celebrates this richness through a demanding program of screenings, professional encounters, and critical discussions.
The most outstanding works will be awarded the festival’s highest distinction, the Gourara d’Or, recognizing artistic excellence and the evocative power of short cinema.
The program of this second edition promises to be particularly rich and distinctive, shaped by a rigorous selection that highlights bold works, renewed cinematic languages, and perspectives deeply rooted in contemporary realities.
Under the direction of Festival Director Fayçal Sahbi, the Timimoun International Short Film Festival affirms, through this second edition, its ambition to establish itself as a lasting presence on the international festival circuit, connecting the Sahara to the world.
