Tia A. Smith is a filmmaker and director whose work is rooted in emotional truth, cultural specificity, and the universal stories that make us feel seen. She brings a bold visual language and a soulful, human-centered approach to every project—from intimate character studies to large-scale cultural moments.
A storyteller at her core, Tia gravitates toward narratives about inheritance, identity, faith, and the quiet revolutions that happen inside families and communities. Her films explore the spaces where personal history collides with transformation—where a person’s becoming is as cinematic as their circumstances. She is drawn to characters who are flawed, resilient, searching, and deeply human.
As the founder of talentedSOL Productions and a creator with more than 4,500 hours of produced work, Tia has shaped films, documentaries, national campaigns, and cultural programming for global audiences. Her recent work includes Hallmark Mahogany’s Napa Ever After, Sense & Sensibility reimagining, Amazon Prime’s Truthing and The Heir—her festival-bound short that examines love, legacy, and the cost of coming home.
As a director, Tia’s vision is guided by three pillars: center the soul, honor the truth, and craft the worlds where our stories can breathe. She believes the most powerful stories are both specific and universal—rooted in real people, yet resonant across borders.
Her favorite recent moment? Standing on set again post-recovery, watching a story she once imagined become light, movement, and meaning.
