I’m Thomas Reed, a 23-year-old filmmaker originally from Houston, Texas. I started my journey as a PA for a small local studio and worked my way up on sets across the country, eventually collaborating on projects for A24, Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock. From those early crew roles to becoming an Assistant Director, every step prepared me to finally pursue the passion projects I’ve carried with me since childhood.
My love for filmmaking began when my single mother, raising three kids on a teacher’s salary, bought me a camcorder in 3rd grade and, later, an iPod Touch in 5th. I made music videos and backyard skits with friends, and when I saw The Social Network at 14, my eyes were opened to the world of cinema and screenwriting—I knew I had found my purpose.
I’ve lived and worked in Houston, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles, but storytelling is what grounds me. Influenced by filmmakers like Jonathan Glazer, David Fincher, Damien Chazelle, the Safdie Brothers, Robert Eggers, and Alex Garland, I gravitate toward emotionally resonant, visually precise, and often unconventional cinema. I especially love long takes and giving performances room to breathe.
More than anything, I aim to tell stories that make people feel seen. Family Tree, my latest short, is a step toward that mission..
