The Antinatalist Film Festival is a historic, first of its kind event, founded by Antinatalism International, (ANI) an organization dedicated to the advancement of the philosophy of Antinatalism!
Antinatalism International, (ANI) is the world’s first explicitly anti-procreative international organization. Founded in the summer of 2020 by a committed group of 6 Antinatalists thinkers, ANI was established to help facilitate the entrance of Antinatalist philosophy into the mainstream consciousness of society. Art, particularly video making, has been an important tool for Antinatalist activism, and we felt it was high time to showcase some of that talent in our community, as well as get others involved who might be from a different mindset, but perhaps find the subject matter artistically inspiring and want to respond creatively!
Wikipedia defines Antinatalism, (or Anti-natalism.) as, 'a philosophical position and social movement that assigns a negative value to birth.' It's an idea that's been with humanity since very early recorded history, but it's only really since the 2006 publication of philosopher David Benatar's book, Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence, that Anti-procreative people have started to collect and truly communicate about this idea with each other. Antinatalism International is the natural evolution of this trend!
Due to circumstances regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, 2021's Antinatalist Film Festival will be entirely hosted online on the Antinatalism International website. We hope however to be able to host future years of the festival as in person events!
We are so excited to see your Antinatalism inspired films!
