Taylor Bakken grew up in the land of -60°F winters and the home of Prince. However, her Minnesotan household was more preoccupied with Jimmy Buffett versus Purple Rain. She believes her early education with Jimmy, David Bowie, and Frank Zappa answers a lot of questions about her work.
During college, Taylor became fascinated with film, but her university only offered one class on it, so she resorted to her own sleuthing. She graduated with a degree in Music Business and German, but her thesis project was a business plan for making a film. Even so, music was the obvious next step at the time, and Taylor got a job at the world-famous venue First Avenue working in the finance department. This was her first foray into the entertainment industry - but it was just outside of the good stuff.
After experiencing all facets of live music, Taylor decided to make the jump into film and moved to LA without knowing a single soul in the industry. She temped her way to assistant positions, and by a sheer stroke of luck found herself working in development for Susan and Robert Downey Jr.
For those three years with the Downeys, Taylor started to hone in on what kind of artist she wanted to be, and what kind of stories she wanted to tell. She started making short films with a few friends, and fell into filmmaking head first. This then prompted a change of scenery - Taylor began assisting Patty Jenkins, and remains her right hand to this day.
Throughout her wildly ranging experiences, Taylor has learned from the best of the best how to tell a tightly woven story, how to lean into absurdity while staying grounded in humanity, all while developing her own visual style. THE ORIGIN STORY (OF GERALD THE LEMON) has been a passion project of hers for the past three years; Taylor hopes to continue telling tall tales about fruit in the years to come.
