Tania Alvarez Guerrero
(January, 1998)
Tania Álvarez Guerrero is a documentary filmmaker who graduated from the National School of Cinematic Arts (ENAC) in Mexico. Her work as a director and producer is characterized by deep research and the ethical sensitivity typical of documentary, combined with a formal approach to fantasy cinema, exploring the animal gaze and analyzing the contemporary relationship between humans and nature.
In 2018, she produced the environmentally themed documentary short Reverdecer for the IMAX In Focus program. She also worked as producer and cinematographer on the short film Clouds (2019), which was featured at the Black Canvas FCC 2019. Her film school thesis, POV: You’re a Cat, is currently in post-production.
Her short film We Animals was part of the official international selection at the 22nd Film and Video Festival in Beijing, the Aporia Village Film Festival in South Korea, and the NUFF (Nordisk Ungdom Film Festival) in Norway. This year, she wrote and directed the documentary short The Maya Forest: When a Tapir Gazes Upon You, which addresses conservation initiatives for the Central American tapir in Mexico and Belize. The film was selected from over 60 worldwide proposals and funded by Wildscreen (the world’s leading wildlife film festival) and the British organization On the Edge.
